06 Base model DIC upgrades

hey i want to add steering wheel controls to my base model 06 silverado ECSB. iv been reading alittle about it and everyone was talking about 03's and 05's. one guy even mentioned that on the instrument panel cluster there was no b9 etc holes to add the steering wheel control wires. all i want out of this is the instantanious MPG and even maybe average. both would be good. anyone done this yet to a 06 work truck.

i know i get this all the time, "why didnt you just buy the truck with DIC?" well i bought the truck off the lot and i couldnt wait another week or whatever. any thing will help at this piont. i would like to keep my factory cluster in the end.

I am in the same situation, I it seems that no one has done much with an 06 truck. I have a 06 CC Sierra and want to add the DIC and NAV. There is much confusion here about what will work and what wont. :)

I did it to my 05 1500 crew cab. You'll need a new steering wheel with the buttons, then a new clockspring harness (it goes under the steering wheel, your stock clockspring won't have the plugs for your new steering wheel to plug into). Then you'll need your dealer to reprogram your trucks computer with tbc and ipc codes that tell your truck you have the new buttons. Without the reprogramming all you'll have are fancy buttons that light up when you turn your headlights on.

BTW, I don't have instant MPG either, But I do have an 03 Silverado SS and it does. One thing I do have on the 05 that the 03 doesn't is gallons used.

It was kind of a pain, but it's the best mod I've done to the truck.

Good luck,

DC
