Clicking under dash

My 2003 HD 1500 has a sound under the driver's side that sounds like a cheap quartz wall clock ticking. Usually, but not always, it will stop if I park the truck and re-start it. I have heard that it is the "blower door motor" . It doesn't seem to effect the running of the truck, just my nerves. Does this sound right, and if so, how difficult is it to replace? Thanks, Bill

Very common. It's one of a/c door actuators. It's *usually* the left temp actuator which is easy to replace. It's on the bottom of the case, just right of center. If it's the right temp actuator, good luck. You gotta pull the whole dash to get at it.

 

If you decide to replace the actuator yourself, DO NOT plug it in until it is mounted to the case.

I have this same problem on a 2004 1500. If I adjust the temp. setting on the right side it will stop ticking. Does this mean it is the right actuator?

I'm sorry to say, yes it is most likely the right side. I've seen guys replace it without pulling the dash, but they shred their hands and arms doing so. It's a real bear.
