Drove a new Silverado Last Night

Well last night i was sitting in traffic around 7:30 PM on the feeder road and i looked at the Chevy Dealership to my left and they had almost a dozen brand new Silverados gleaming there in front of the dealership. I figured, What the hell if i am going to sit in traffic i might as well do it in a Brand new Truck.

So i went in and started talking to a salesmen about them and he asked me if i wanted to drive one. Don't mind if i do. So i took about a 15 mile jaunt around west houston and here are my observations.

Interior:

Materials quality is through the roof, especially on the dash and door panels.

New gague cluster is really easy to read and use

WT Dash is the one for me

If it had anymore storage, i could smuggle people in there

The center seat has my vote. There are 3 cup holders on top and cavernous storage in the top section, and i think the lower storage is bigger than my apartment. (and sure enough it fits my 17" MacBook Pro perfectly and it locks with the ignition key for security.

Lots of legroom in the back seat

Seats are still really comfortable

Trans-Temp gauge is a really nice feature

All the controls are within arms reach and easy to use

Exterior:

Army Tank of a pickup box

Closed inner Fender wells in the back (Metal)

I actually like the frontend better in person

Construction is really clean and tight

very small and straight Body Lines

Performance:

5.3L is better than ever

They may have actually fixes the 4l60e (no clunks)

Steering is amazing with good feedback

handles on rails (well for a truck)

Coil-over suspension is miles ahead of the old T-Bars and Coil Springs

Overall Cons: (few and far between)

Front end ground clearance (BUT, The 6" front black plastic chin spoiler comes off, and there is no ugly growths that show it is gone. The truck in my opinion looks a hell of alot better without it. In fact i would probably remove it before i left the lot.)

Crew Cab Front Head room (I am between 6'4" and 6'5" depending on the day and i rubbed my head on the center crossbrace in the ceiling a few times. But i had that problem with the GMT-800 Crew Cabs.

In all i think the general hit a home run with this one, I will be buying one in 2-3 years once all the kinks get worked out and the exteded cabs with the Max tow package are available.

Oh and the best part of all BRAND NEW STEERING SYSTEM

*edit* i took some pics and will be uploading them tonight

I don't even wanna test drive one. It would just make me want to trade me '05 for one and I really can't afford it

I wonder if after a couple years they will start taking off some of the features like they did with the '99+ models. I really wish they would have kept the cabin air filter.

I went to our local dealer last night... no trucks. I was up in NC today and drove past a dealer that had.... one! It was a white silverado quad cab tiny bed (the truck I thought would be the "ugliest" of the cab/bed configurations..) It was absolutely one of the best looking trucks I've ever seen. The pictures do NOT do these trucks justice, they are truely rolling works of art.... I WANT ONE!

Ohmanohmanohman.

Today is the very first time that I'm actually feeling just a bit of buyers remorse for buying the TBSS.

I drove a Z71 Tahoe and a (4x4) Z71 Silverado crew about an hour ago.

Holy sh*t...The pictures do NOT do this truck justice. The ride, the quality feel, the handling.

There's better visibility from the drivers seat than any truck I've ever been in. The dash must be lower or something.

I can't say much about the power, as damn near everything I drive seems slow and gutless since I bought the TB. :) But it felt better than what I remember of my '02 Z71.

I agree with ZZebes, homerun on this truck. I want one of these something fierce. If I hadn't just bought a brand new truck 6 months ago, I'd be in that dealership working a deal on one of these trucks right now.

Seriously guys...Go look at them in person. I've never been in a nicer truck than the Z71 pickup I drove this evening.

Saw my first one today. GMC Sierra crew cab. I gotta say, I don't like it. At least they got the color right on this one. :)

There was a "Metallic Brown" something or other on the showroom floor this evening, and I thought it looked really nice.

That GMC has some really funny shaped flares on the rear. :fume:

They look a lot lower.

Looks like a sissy truck my Grandmother would drive.

I'm really ashamed.....

Have you seen them in person?

The 2WD Z71 (yeah, I know...2WD Z71? WTF?) seemed bigger than my '02 Z71 4WD was. A LOT bigger in fact.

They don't sit low at all. They also seem to have a bit more room than the current gen trucks have for larger wheels/tires. Time will tell on that one though.

Yes I have seen them in person.

While the outside is an absolute abortion, the interior is quite impressive.

If I *HAD* to I'd take the GMC over the chevrolet. My next vehicle will most likely be a Toyota for my wife. I really *really* wanted a Yukin z71 6" lift, etc but after this body change that's not happening now.

I may see about a sequoia and find someone who has a lift kit for it.

I like the exterior looks of the new Ford's much better than GM but their interior is still ugly--and the horrific experiences I've had with ford and my work trucks, I'd have to smash my balls with a splintered mallet before I got a ford.
