Big trucks

I've out grown my 2002 Chevy 2500hd and am looking to purchase a bigger truck. I like the Freightliner FL-70..........what is a good source of gather additional info?

 

Basically you've got the choice of a 8.3L Cummins or CAT for power and a 6speed Fuller tranny.

 

I'll be going either 26000 or 33000 GVW with a dump body. I've found one currently with a box on the back that has 40k on the CAT and 130k on the chasis.......prob get for $17,500. After getting the truck painted and all the toys (switch and go system, polished/stainless parts etc) looking at $35,000. I just couldn't find that with the Chevy's.

I am a mechanic for a large fleet, and we bought a number of Freightliner FL 70's with both Cummins and Cat 3126E/C7 engines. They do not hold up well at all. Lots of electrical problems, door handles, A/C controls, park brake valves (air brakes), seat upholstery and trim, weatherstriping all junk, and to top it off, our dealer is uncooperative at best. The trucks do drive nice though. If I were to buy a medium duty, I would only consider a Chevy/GMC or International 4900.

We have 2 FL-80's at work, one with a cummins and the other has a cat engine. The engines are the only good part of the trucks. The cabs are literally a POS.

Just get yourself a good old Peterbuilt with a nice big trailer...then you can haul anything!

thing is i can't spend more than $20k tops on a cab and chasis............26k GVW

 

prefer it be more around the $15-$17.5 range

 

i'm spending another $15k on a switch and go system + getting the truck how i want it

whats the specifics or catches on chevy's 100k mile warranty and other warranty?

I hate to say it, but medium duty commercial trucks are a classic case of 'get-what-you-pay-for'.
