How much dough do you have to spend to fill up the tanks on the new HDs???

Gas and Diesel. I'm just wondering because I'd like to get one sometime. I wanna know if I'll have to become a millionaire before I do so.

If you're driving a 3/4 or 1 ton truck, gas mileage sucks.

My '95 gets about 12 mpg in town, 14 on the highway if I go 80 mph or more. I f I keep it down below 70 mph, I can average 16. I get a double advantage going slow, though. I cruise on 2-lane highways and get to see a lot more, plus the mileage. The wife hates it, though. She wants to GET THERE NOW!

?.00 to ?.00 for aprox 22 gallons of gas. ?.619 and up for gas in northern California. That comes out to 11 to 14 mpg, combo. of driving city and highway.

Hope this is what you were looking for

Sorry,

34 galllon tank, right now gas is ?.44 per gallon, so completely dry, it will cost ?.96 to fill up an empty tank. I fill up every two weeks with normal in-town driving, averaging 28 gallons per fill up. So right now, I pay about ?.00 every two weeks.

In the past year, gas has gone from ?.03 to ?.65 up and down.

Don't know how much it costs.  Always fill up out of the farm tank, we buy gas in 500 gallon quantities.  That takes some dough to fill up.  When that gets filled we also get 500 gallons of diesel, so we end up with quite a bill.  Good thing is that we pay no tax on diesel since it is for off-road farm use.  Gas is a little cheaper than what you guys pay at the pump.

It is a company called FS.  They sell farm supplies like seed, chemicals, and petroleum products.  Our fuel doesn't come in those big semis, it is delivered in a straight truck with three large tanks on it, one for gas, one for on-road diesel, and one for off-road diesel.

Spending ?.52 for mid-grade in Central Texas now.  But the good news is that I've tweeked and massaged my '92 1500 4X4 X-Cab LWB with 350 & 3.73s up to 16.6 MPG.  That's going 70-75 mph empty.

Thats what we do, except we use red diesel in my truck nd my dad's truck. The gas goes to my mom's Sub. our Scout, Jeep. I have to use the 93 octane expensive stuff for my 11:1 327. Not fun filling up or getting 8mpg.

You better watch that red diesel in truck stuff.  If you get caught you are in really deep do-do.  If you're going down the road in a truck, don't take the chance, put the clear stuff in.

If I'm not mistaken, they can tell if you have ran farm diesel in your truck for quite awhile after the tank is empty.  I believe the farm diesel leaves a residue on the tank and exhaust pipes that can be detected....

Right you are.  I have heard that putting half a gallon of red in a full tank of clear will still leave a residue after anywhere from 4 to as many as 10 tanks.  I haven't heard that exhaust pipe residue, at least I've never seen them check the pipes.

On a side note, I didn't know until I was 12-14 (somewhere in there) that diesel was supposed to be clear, all the stuff I had ever seen was red.

Hmm, I get Heating oil that's red and they call it "Dyed Diesel", is that the same stuff as the red diesel you guys are talking about.

PS, sorry for the belated post.
