In the latest Hot Rod there is an article where they name the 10 best v-8 engines in the world.. Two out of ten are our truck engines in the HD's:) They chose the 6.0 and the 8.1 as two of the very best there is in the world.. Said the 6.0 revs like mad and pulls smooth and fast and called it the BEST truck engine in the world and the 8.1 is such a smooth brute that it too won! Said the Dodge and Ford v-10's don't hold a candle to the massive Big Block:) They said that they have no idea why the 8.1 is NOT in the Vette . Now that would be a Super Vette!!

Now I assume that these are the top ten motors currently in production.  If so, I agree with it, although I'm sure a few of the owners that are complaining of knocking wouldn't agree.

Could you list the other eight motors too, just for the heck of it?

I can tell you why the 8.1 isn't in the vette  :D

1. Size, Its too big

2. Weight, its too heavy and would mess up the vettes 50/50 weight.

Too bad, cause that would be awesome in the vette.

The last one

HEMI:)

Please forgive me, I got home and read the article, Hemi should have been there, but---

The last engine not listed, and fingers should be cut off(?), Duramax,--

Maybe I'm too cruel, sorry!!

Yur correct! Ya jogged my memory.. It IS the Duromax. So there are THREE engines in the list that is our HD engines. In fact its all three engines that are available in the HD's!

How about a factory massaged 6.0L in the Vette.  Free revving and good torque numbers...  I'm sure with a few factory tricks the 6.0L could grab 400hp with no trouble...

There isn't no need for the Vortec 6.0 to be put in the Vettes.  The LS6 5.7L they use in the ZO6 Corvette makes 405hp right now.  The LS6 powerplant is absolutely amazing, and is probably capable of more.  Besides, these new Vortec powerplants are losely based off the LS6 (or is it LS1) series of engines, only designed for truck applications.  I say leave the LS6 to the Corvettes, it is more then adequate....

The BMW 5.0 V8 is my choice, 368# of torque, 384 hp, very docile engine, for a 5 liter as compared to the rest.

I have seen this engine, you can set a FULL glass of water, filled to the brim, on the intake and there is no water splashed about from idle to 6500 rpm.

It ain't no SBC or BBC, but is it smooooth!:0

Toyota V8, one of the best in the world?  That's like saying you can get better fried rice in the US than you can in Japan.  If they are gonna let diesel engines in that comparison, the PSD would stomp a mud hole in the toyota.  Same goes for the 5.7 in the vette. It's a strange line-up of engines, but you can't argue with the 6.0, the Duramax and the 8.1 being among the best ;) !

I too don't know why the 'Stroke isn't listed if the list also includes diesels.  I sure think its been proven over and over again.  I would sure think that thing would be better than some Toyota.

Stepside Z;

Since the 4.8/5.3/6.0 are all really very closely related (I believe the only differences come down to crank and bore) then we can safely assume that the 4.8 and 5.3 are included with the 6.0. :D

This leads me to a sidetrack - why does GM offer 3 very similar smallblock V-8's?  Why not just 1 smallblock?  Wouldn't it be cheaper that way for them?  Their engine lineup would then be 4.3 V6, 6.0 V8, 8.1 V8, D-Max diesel.  Seems like kind of a goofy strategy to have 3 engine choices so close in size and specs.
