Intermittent power steering with "big" wheels

2006 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT 20" GMC wheels

I continue to have intermittent loss of power assist when the truck is not rolling. I have had the vehicle serviced and have seen the GMC notice/acknowledgement of this condition with the upsize tires. A steering valve was replaced and the condition continues. I know I am not the only owner with this problem but, have not yet spoken to any that have fixed the problem. I will be returning to the dealer, much to my chigrin, and really do not want some tech blowing smoke up my a**. So I ask for some help. Does the steering box need to be replaced? Thanks Art

You'll probably never fix this. If you're not moving at all, there's a LOT of friction to overcome. If you have the brake applied it's even worse. I've seen some with really wide tires that with the brakes applied and not moving, you couldn't even turn the wheel.

I recently started having the same problem on my 97'. It only has a set of 285/75 on it and it worked fine previously. I replaced the power steering pump like amonth ago and now last week it started not working when the truck is sitting still. I have flushed the system and checked everything I could think of. The pump is moving fluid but it isn't helping turn the wheels.
