Who would win a drag race....

What about gearing?  In a drag race with trucks, it makes all the difference in the world whether or not you have 4.10s or something a lot higher in it.

Gotta make things interesting with gears like that don't ya.   :D   I'd have to say a close one, but give the edge to the Dakota for having the much lighter weight.

Those little Dakotas are pretty quick, so I feel safe in saying that the Dakota will win fairly easily.  The Chevy would perform alot better if it only had the 4.10's.....

I'll disagree with you all!!! I don't think that the Dog will keep up with the 6.0L, it would depend alot on the drivers also.  The Dog might move first but even with the 3:73's my truck pulls hard from about 20 mph to 90 mph, and I don't think that it would be much of a race.  Also if it were a true drag race you would have already run some times and would know what time to dial in and how best to beat him in a ET type race.  My first drag racing ticket was my 1964 Rambler 220 station wagon 6 cyl, auto, dog slow vs. 1966 Chevelle SS 396 4 speed.  State cop wrote us both tickets for Drag Racing on public streets, when we showed up for court with a NHRA rule book and a drag strip owner to teach the judge and cop the rules for drag racing after 2 1/2 hours of our expert teaching court the tickets were dismissed!!! And the judge told the cop he better leave us alone because he did not want to learn about anything else for a while.

I'll throw even more wrinkles into it;

1) Is this at a drag strip or on the street?

2) What kinda tire is each running?

3) If at a drag strip, what are the average reaction times of each driver, their 60' times and their MPH in the 1/8th mile

Gearing makes a difference like you guys mentioned but, each has their advantages in the 1/4 mile.  The Dodge's 3.90 will help slightly out of the hole and subsequently it's 60' time.  however by around the 330' mark, I'd look at the superior powerband of the 5.3 and it's shorter gearing to come to it's advantage as speed builds.

Another question, does the Chevy have AutoTrac?  If so, the race will be over quickly for the Dodge if it does.

Just so you know, the Dakota with the 4.7 V8 runs the 0-60 in anywhere from 7.2 to 8.0 secs depending on the cab configuration.  I don't know if the 2500 Silverado will be able to do it in under 9.0 secs or not....

I gotta jump in and add my 2 cents.

Both trucks stock with the engines and gears descibed...stopped at a red light on the street and having a "friendly" race to see who's fastest...the Dak would take it.

Adding the trailer...same scenario...the Chevy would win.

I have driven a 2001 Durango with the 4.7 and that thing is fast, would blow my Chevy away on any given day. The Dak being a bit lighter would be even quicker.

I'd be more than happy to prove this theory if anyone is up for the challenge  :D

Holey POO POO, you guys got me scared! I'm going to "upgrade" my '99 5.3 to a 02 or 03 6.0 because it can't pull (comfortably) what the General says it should and now you say a 4.7 will spank the 6.0??

Posted

Just because the 6.0 will get beat in this drag race, doesn't have jack to do with how its gonna pull a trailer.  And thats what matters, right?  The 6.0 has more torque and horsepower then the little Dodge V8 does, but it is also pushing around probably 2000lbs more.  Thats a big difference to overcome.

But like the guys said, slap a trailer behind them both and see what the results are like....

    • I am having similar issues.. 08, 4.8L granted I did had a fender bender and minor damage up front passenger side but I don’t think it had anything to do with it.. I had the high and low pressure checked and my fan for my radiator keeps coming on.. replaced the pressure switch and don’t want to keep throwing parts at it. I did have some minor problems here and there like on long road trips sometimes the ac would get a little warm and then on the highway as soon as I give it a little gas or get a little heavier on the petal it started running cooler. Never had an issue with the ac besides the here and there.. but I also started having issues when I fuel up now it takes a bit to start ( super embarrassing) it runs fine and once started ( only happens after fueling up) starts fine any other time. Could they be related?
    • Spent a small fortune on fuel this weekend.   $6.69 diesel, 18 gallons of that. $6.99 92-octane ethanol free, 10 gallons of that for yard machines $5.59 87-octane for one of the cars, 11 gallons.   $250+ and I didn't even get a tug.   Hormuz ain't Hormuzin again, did not see that coming...LOL
    • Appreciate the advice. I've watched multiple videos. Most showing the most complex for those that have a center console, to one that showed maybe 2 pieces of trim being removed, like 6 screws, pulling back the screen and switch assembly, and installing the inline module. And this was a new/newer Silverado. That didn't look too bad. All the others show alot of trim pieces that need to be removed. I've broken those kind of tabs/clips on my C8 Corvette trying to get to the battery, and that was a lot less clips than what I think is involved here after watching multiple videos and looking at my dash today. I have one on the way. Called a reputable stereo place about installing it and got a "minimum" price of $175. Ouch! Looking forward to seeing what the instructions have to say.
    • Hard to say what the issue might be. Anything from the ability to cool the AC condenser up front, to blend door issues in the HVAC unit, to refrigerant charge, to compressor issues or issues in the lines.   Report back what the techs find on the 29th.   GM has service publications which list acceptable vent temperatures and AC pressures at given ambient temps and humidity. They probably won't touch the system if it's operating within those ranges.   I'm also surprised to hear your 2024 with the L8T is still using R134a? I was pretty sure the HD's had switched to the new refrigerant around 2020.
