Computer Troubles.

I'm getting a random bluescreeing. The stop error is MACHINE_CHECK_ERROR. I've googled this and found basically no information on the matter.

I've been using my RAM, CPU and Board just fine sine july no trouble at all. I recently added a SATA hard drive and 500 w Ultra power supply. I went a little cheaper on the power supply as I did not have the money for the Antec I wanted. The Ultra was rated high and I have their RAM and zero trouble.

I'm basically ruling out RAM, CPU and video. Can power supply cause a stop error?

Computer is:

AMD XP 64 4200+ Clawhammer core

ABIT UL8 board

Ultra 1024mb DDR3200

ASUS video NVIDIA GeForce chipset

Ultra 500 watt power supply

Seagate Barracuda 250 Gig SATA 1.5 hard drive.

Thanks guys

oh yea, Win XP Pro.

Did you install Windows on the new drive, or just add it in as storage? Do you have your old PSU? If so, swap it out and test it again.

I did install fresh windows. I have the old psu, but I can't use it beause it doesn't have SATA connectors :)

I completely swapped drives. I pulled my old one and repalced it with the new one. I'm not running two drives...for clarification.

Your SATA drive shouldve come with an adapter to go from MOLEX to the SATA. Or it should have both connection options on the back of the hard drive.

one connection...no adaptors...I bought it OEM. Could I buy the adapters possibly?

OEM huh? Newegg? I have like 5 of those adapters from my hard drives and SATA DVD.

You can probably order one from newegg. If it were me i would just put the old hard drive back in and see if windows would run on it with your new powersupply.

And yes, if your power supply is not providing stable voltages it can cause OS errors or memory errors causing Windows to crash. Thats why i bought an Antec for my machine.

hah yea, Antec rocks. But I coudln't afford it. I think I may order teh adapter and try the old power supply wiht the new drive. Thats easier for me sine the old hard dirve is a fraction of the size.

Thanks a lot man.

Yup. Good ol' BSOD. None of those solutions really fit my situation. I think Imma try the power supply first.

Thanks fellas
