1999 k2500 transfer case leak

I have a 1999 K2500 suburban and the transfer case has been leaking for a while. Not a big leak but enough to try to fix. My question is will the transfer case be cleanest near the leak. By that I mean will the leaking fluid clean away dirt and grime. I think it is the rear output seal leaking but the ribs in the tailshaft housing are pretty dirty. There is no sign of fluid slinging off the drive shaft but it may be leaking between the housing and the seal. Any ideas would be a great help. Thanks

The Rear Output seal is the most common place for her to leak. That and the drain plug. I would start there. Mine is leaking and will be replaced when I have the Slip Yoke replaced.

Mine had a little crack right at the drain plug. When Mr. nobody tightened it at the dealer it must have split. Pulled the plug, drained the fluid, a little JB weld, dry, install new plug and washer, fill. Dry for 8 months. SteveR

I replaced the seal and changed the fluid. Dry after 15 miles. My transfer case has a boot on the seal and the hole in the boot was pointed toward the top so I think it was leaking there. Where is the hole suposed to be facing? I installed the new seal with it facing downward because the old one was full of water after cleaning the case up.
