Now that the 07 HD's are going to be released soon. Has anyone heard anything about plowing with them? I am hoping that you can plow with a Duramax.

Same BS as last year..Only reg cabs can get the plow package with the LMM. I also think the ext cab shortys can too. A big "NO" for the diesel crew cabs.

From what I've heard and read, the front end weights were NOT increased with the re-design.

I have been trying to find out about the front gvw of the new '07s. The specs given to me from the dealer today was that these tucks will not be any different than the specs on the 2006's. I have a landscape and snow plowing business and currently run 4 chevy trucks. I want to buy a crew cab with a diesel motor so I can work and plow with it and also pickup my kids when I need to. I think it is absurd that these new trucks will not have a stronger front end. How can you call a truck a 3500HD when you can't even put a plow on a crew cab srw diesel. My dad is a GM retiree, and I get a nice discount from him, but it may be time to try a Ford F350. My salesman at the dealership told me about people constantly walking out the door when they find out they can't put a plow on a crew cab. I am very frustrated. Chevy finally has a awesome diesel motor and a awesome tranny, now it is time for a awesome front end. Does any have any different info? Hopefully?

i think that a good HD truck needs to have a solid axle under the front end. thats just my opinion though. They just dont build them like they used to

Talk to a salesperson and tell him what you want to do. A good dealership will stand by you for any warranty issues. I have had two Avalanches with Fisher plows, with no issues, but if you talked to a GM rep they would have told me that it could not be done. By the way the Avalanche's were the best plowing vehicles I have ever owned because of their weight, and weight distribution. Enjoy your new diesel. Please don't buy that Ford.

I have talked to my salesman many times. He is totally on my side. Ever year when he goes to the northeast truck meetings in Atlantic City, he always brings up this topic. Almost every salesman at the meeting complains about the truck front end at this meeting. GM has the same answer every year "were working on it"

My salesman will not warranty a truck without a plow prep package. If you blow your tranny and your dealer has to pay for it they may change their tune. If GM had a strong front end, we would not even be having this discussion.

It all goes back to finding a dealer to stand behind you no matter what. I broke the rear ring and pinion in my wife's 2006 Silverado pulling a sled at one the local fairs. My dealer had no problem replacing them and all of the bearings at GM's expense. The other dealer that I buy from also would not have a problem. Two years ago I pulled a 2004 Avalanche and the rear got noisy. It was replaced at GM's expense. Maybe the dealers that I deal with here in Maine are different. I also don't lie to them, I tell them what I have done.

Again, pulling a sled and commercial snowplowing are totally different.

I have a new 2007 model GMC Sierra 2500, Duramax, crew cab, long bed on order. When going through the build options at the dealer, the GM build program would not allow a plow prep package with the Duramax, crew cab & long bed configuration. Does anyone truly know if that is simply because GM has not certified the front end in this configuration for a plow prep package & snow plow or is it because the front end in this configuration is truly insufficient in some manner to handle the plow package & plow? Also, does anyone out there have any experience with aftermarket plow prep packages & plows on a 2500 GMC or Chevy with crew cab, Duramax & standard (not short) or long bed? Any insight here is appreciated. Seems kind of silly to have a 2500 with the power of a D'max & not be able to plow snow with it. Thanks.

It's because the front end is over the axle rating with the added weight of the plow. I weighed an '06 ext cab short box and it was ~500 pounds under the front axle rating. GM is not going to equip a vehicle from the factory that when used correctly will exceed it's weight rating.

The answer is that it truly is not a strong front end. The farther apart the wheel base the more pressure on the front axle. It is a joke. I am very disgusted. I was really looking forward to getting this new style truck. Now I will turn to another truck. Unfortunately there are only a small number of people who plow. GM will not target the plowing group when a majority of the people across the country do not need to put a plow on their truck. It is really to bad.
