Bose / NAV into non-Bose truck

Recommended Posts

I've been looking for a way to install a Bose Nav TNR head unit into my non-Bose truck. But I don't want to hassle with the Bose amps & such, as I have some kickin' Rockford Fosgate amps to install to power the Focal speakers & JL Audio Subs.

I have a Rockford Fosgate 3.Sixty2 interface that I was planning on using with my factory head unit - it takes speaker level inputs & gives you line-level ouutputs (among many other things).

But if I want to put in a TNR, it appears the Bose outputs are constant level & don't vary. An amp interface is available, but still needs the bose amp on the Class II bus. At least this is what I read here:

http://www.autotoys.com/x/cust/product.php...50&cat=0&page=1

SO - is it possible to use a Bose-style head unit (TNR) with no bose amps in the truck? I've been looking for a non-Bose TNR for about a month with no success - some sellers on eBay claim to be able to get them, none have materialized.

Tell me, Oh wise ones!

Thanks

The only thing i can think of is putting the unit in then getting a OEM audio box to put on the speaker cable lines. I know some places make them like Four.1 JL and i think rockford. You can take a look for those.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "OEM audio box " but I think I have one of those. But the Bose units do not have speaker cable outputs - only line level outputs. Even then, the line level outputs do not vary in level when you turn the volume knob (or so I'm told) - that's all done over the data bus. And the unit won't work without a data bus amp on the other end.

At least that's what it says in the link I posted. I've never measured one myself.

Is what that link says actually correct?

I installed a non-bose TNR out a of buick rendevous into my 05 non-bose silverado. All plug and play. I also used a PAC AOEM-GM24 so i can connect an amp to power all my speakers!! I bought mine on ebay for 900 bucks. Came with TNR, nav disc, antenna, and manual!! :P

you can also use a non lux bose TNR then add a PAC AOEM-gm24 and raise the gains on the PAC !!

So you mean there's hope? Do you know which eBay seller you got them from? Do you know if all Buick Rendevous' are non-Bose? Wouldn't happen to have any part numbers, would you?

Any help is appreciated!!

Thanks

Thanks for the tip. That's the guy I was communicating with before Thanksgiving - he said he'd have one in stock the following week. I haven't heard back from him at all, and I've been sending him two emails a week. :P

So I think I have to wait. Thanks for the PN though.

As for the C2A-GM24 comment - I am still a little confised about what I need there. Still researching. As long as the Buick NAV unit has a built-in amp & speaker-level outputs, I should have what I need though:

Rockford Fosgate 3.Sixty2

That's a high-end signal processor to go with the speaker-level to line level converter. Now the question is - do I need some other 'box' to plug into the factory head unit (NAV or otherwise?) to keep it happy? My plans were to splice into the speaker wires coming out of the headunit and go into this Rockford Fosgate box - so the factory head unit will see the truck plugged into it just as normal - save for the load on the speaker wires. I *think* that's everything I need.

Is it??

BTW, The C2A-GM24 is the wrong one for your truck!  That one is for luxury bose systems only.

No, you don't need another box to plug into to make it happy.

The C2A-GM24 is for the High end BOSE amps that are found in Escalades, Denali.

In my opinion, get the non bose TNR, get the pac AOEM-GM24, use the RCA output from the AOEM-GM24 to go to your 3 sixty2.

OK, I"m reading the post over at the dieselplace - wow! 85 pages! I'm only to page 35 or so, but here's what I understand so far:

I can use a Bose NON-Lux in my truck since I'm using aftermarket amps anyway (using an AOEM-GM24 adapter). Can anyone confirm this is true?

If it is indeed true, I think I'm golden!

Thanks

Define "better signal"? Better how?

At least I can find a non-Lux unit - finding a non-Bose unit is dang near impossible!

I did figure out that with a Bose unit I would have one extra piece of equipment in the signal path though - the AOEM-GM24 box. (Since the RF 3.Sixty2 takes speaker level inputs or RCA line level - would need the AOEM-GM24 like you mentioned)

I wonder if the signal would be better with only the one box vs the two?

BTW - is this what you did (Bose non-Lux into aftermarket amps?) So you can verify it worked?

And BTW - want to hear a Bose joke? I used to work at a place that had a couple of acoustic / audio engineers there. They used to say "No Highs? No Lows? Must be Bose!" I know people rant about the Bose Lux system, but in my book it just sounds "less bad" than a real good aftermarket system with real subs, real power, and real tweeters & crossovers.

Just my $0.02

Yes, it's true!!

you are better off getting a non lux TNR!! It outputs a better signal!!!!

Bose non lux into amps will work!! Alot of guys have done it at dieselplace!

You just have raise the gains on the AOEM-gm24 and your amps!

I've heard guys say that nonlux tnr gives a CLEANER signal than the nonbose tnr.

And about that bose joke, I'm with you! When I bought my truck, I wanted one without bose because I knew I was going all aftermarket! I didn't want to pay for something I was going to rip out!!!
