1996 Silverado Error Codes

Hi, I just had a question as to what these two codes mean. They are P0700pd and P1192pd. I know the second one is mfg. specific. I also have been having some trouble with my transmission lately, and I think they are related. I will be traveling about 60 mph, and my transmission will kick into 3rd gear when I am in drive. It also usually shuts off the tach and every once in a while, the speedometer. If I shut my truck off for a few seconds, it usually goes away. Also, when I slow down, it wont shift back into first or second gear, I have to do it manually, and it shifts very hard. I am almost certain it is electronics, but I am not sure what exactly. Thanks for your help.

I don't know what those codes are, but we had a lot of ignition switch problems back then and this kinda sounds like that. Does anything happen with the PRNDL indicator?

BTW, there's no "pd" at the end of a code. I don't know where that came from or what it is supposed to mean, but if you go searching for those codes, just use P0700 or P1192 with no "pd".

The light on the gear indicator would go out also, if that helps at all. And the code reader I have had those two numbers at the end of the code. I didn't think it meant anything, I just wasn't sure. It doesn't show up for other codes either. What does it take to fix the ignition, if thats what it is? Thanks a lot for your help.

If the PRNDL goes out, it's almost certainly an ignition switch. What does it take to fix? Replace the ignition switch.

This may be a few years late but it is probably the VSS (vehicle speed sensor). It is used to control the shift points. The tranny will eventually go to limp mode and start off in 2nd gear and start slipping and shifting up and down due to RPM and MPH not matching.
