my tahoe recently was hit with a water problem and so far the main problem i am having is the starter stays engaged while in park. it runs fine and all when i shift into a diff gear but has constant power when in park.

allready replaced the starter even though both are good.

what are some things i can look into?? any help will be great ly appreciated thank you in advance

Not sure what a "water problem" means. Was it in a flood? If so, how deep? Is it safe to assume this is the 2001 tahoe that's in your profile?

Try pulling the "Crank" fuse first. Power from the ignition switch goes directly to that fuse in the START position. It then has to pass through the park/neutral switch before it gets to the start relay. You're interrupting that when you put it in gear. So, if pulling the fuse stops it from cranking all the time, either the ignition switch is bad or power is being fed into the wire from the ign. switch to the fuse.

Any aftermarket stuff, like alarm systems, remote start, etc.??

ok first i want to say thank you for such a fast reply

yes its the tahoe in my profile

i was on the beach and got stuck and couldnt get it out till the morning so water got into it but only the carpet got wet. nothing higher than like carpet height i repaired some wires that got corroded already at the driver and passenger kick panel area.

now do i pull that crank fuse while its running in another gear other than park or when should i pull it.

it doesnt start in another gear i just have to quickly shift it into another gear to let it run then when it running and i go to put it in park the starter engages.

oo yeah it has no other mods at all its completely stock

Pull it while it's cranking when it shouldn't be.

allright i pulled the crank fuse but still it was getting power. i pulled my park/neutral switch and it was screwed from the water you can see the corrosion inside it. so i will replace that as soon as i can and also check out the ignition switch.

how do i check the ignition switch???

and is there anything else i should look at?

thanks again for your help.

If you pulled the fuse and it continued cranking, it's not the ignition switch, so forget that. There is power for other circuits at the park/neutral switch, so internal corrosion has probably bridged across that power to the crank circuit.

Replace the park/neutral switch before you do any more head scratching.

ok i fixed or should i say you fixed gm-tech i replaced the switch and bam it started right up without constant power to the starter

now i bet that would have cost hundreds of dollars if i took it to my local dealer to fix.
