Handheld Tuner

I am thinking about tunning my PCM and want to know what you guys think about it.

What are the better ones?

Will i have to switch to running Premium fuel?

Are they worth getting?

I run a Superchips tuner on my 5.3L and love it. Supposedly, I had heard from friends that Hypertech power output is a little less than the superchips, and I got a great deal on a brand new superchips tuner on ebay. It has 3 power levels, an 87 performance, a towing performance and 93 performance. I run 87 performance, because its nearly $.30/gal cheaper (which means a lot at 13MPG), and I honestly couldn't tell enough of a difference to run it all the time at 93. You WILL feel the difference the tuner makes, and if you dont notice it right away, take it off after a week or two (return it to stock), and realize what you've gained. Definitely worth the $300 i spent, in terms of gas mileage and performance.

Thanks! ya i get 8MPG around town and it SUCKS! lol

my main concern was getting better gas mileage, more horsepower and all the goodies without having to run premium.

i was also looking into superchips and would like to know (once you get it) what changes you notice. and is there anyone that has had one for a long time. does it hurt anything.

take a look at diablo sport predator.I run the 87 tune on my 2006 with 4.8 and

3.23 rear gears. It realy woke up the motor. Pulls harder, no down shifting to 3rd on smaller hills and mpg is up.

All i need now is 3.73 gears.

Ive heard that the nice thing about the new superchips tuner is that you can continually update the flash online for newer upgrades instead of buying a new tuner every time.

Once i get it i will post the results.

read a thread somwhere a guy had a custom tune put on his predator from one of the pcm tuners so he ended up with 3 tunes on it. heard it will hold 5 tunes.

I am also looking into a handheld tuner, superchips or diablo predator. I have 4:10 rear and was wondering if it would help perf. and mpg. I am leaning towards the predator because of the free upgradable tunes, does superchips have anything like that?

I have a 2000 Silverado ext cab with a 5.3. I have several other modifications on it and I use the Hypertech III power programer and have had great results with it. It is very versatile, allowing you to tweak many parameters of your programming. It was hard to tell at first but I had to return it to stock programming after driving a good six months on it. I noticed a huge difference in power loss, milage, shift firmness. I couldn't wait to put the Hypertech back in. Best part is that I got a great deal on it so the investment was well worth it. Give it a shot and good luck.

Well i got my SuperChips Tuner and i have to say WOW!!

It made a huge difference in performance, the sifts are firmer and much quicker. it idles smoother and there is more power ALL through the power band.

Ive only had it on there for about 50 miles so im not sure on the gas mileage but im sure its helped.

I am very pleased!
