Is this the Compass

I'm mounting a strobe lamp (fire department) to my windshield with a metal bracket. Best location is to slide half the bracket between the plastic clip that secures the 'box' beneath the rearview mirror.

I've opened it up and it appears to house the compass. Is this correct? There don't appear to be any sensors within the box.

I'll check the back side of my mirror to ensure I don't block and forward facing sensors (what would they be for).

I am aware the dash houses the daylight sensor that activates the DRL.

OK, I called the local service department and was told this is the circuit board for the compass LCD display. No sensors here.

The forward sensor on the mirror is a daylight sensor that auto adjusts the dim.

Last question:

I think i've read that there is a 12v + and - wire in the harness that attaches to the mirror that drop power when ignition is off (no RAP control over databus).

Is this correct and does anyone know which two wires? I'd like to tap these to power my 12v strobe (I'll check what fuse they use and confirm its not undersized).
