severe wheel hop in sand?

I got stuck in some florida shugar sand on a dirt road last week, every time I would get up and on top of the sand I would get theis viloent shudder felt like the truck was about to come apart   :D  so I had to back off and sink back into the sand

finally got pulled out by a tractor (brand, F*rd  ) adding insult to injury

any way should not have taken a heavy 2wheel into such conditions factory locker or no

I am trying to figure out what to do about the shudder, I have felt a verry mellow version of this on pavement before during heavy excelleration but thought nothing of it,  the stock shocks suck so I was thinking of trying the easy fix first  hopefully more dampening will help

there were accual up and down in the tracks in the sand over 2" high about 5" long so I know the tires where hopping but that may be caused by 2 piecd drive shaft launch shudder or locker chatter or just regular oll wheel hop

1. what is the cause?

2. what will fix

3. what should I look for in a shock? bilstens seam to be a fav arround here I went to thier site and there was no c2500 HD listed so I looked at the c2500 (no HD) and they are "in development" there are part #'s listed for the K2500 I beleve there is no diffrencr in the suspnesion between the two except for the hubs and shafts so can I use them on mine?

if u have bilsteens on a 2wheel 3/4 HD what #'s are you useing

should I look at other brands? where to get

I do about 90% on road and 10% dirt road in this truck no intended offroading but $klt happens

it sounds like it was the locker causing the hop.

I know mine will occasionally do this and made a chattering noise.  I dont think it is anything out of the ordinary

Seems like we have several factors working against the HD in this case.  The poor shocks, very light weight in the back end, and stiff springs.  With that said I'd be willing to bet it was wheel hop, and not locker related.  If it was locker related and that violent, then your locker has some problems.  I think you could probably solve most of it by getting some good shocks on that thing.

thanks for the replies U guys have reinforced my thought about trying shocks

what do u think about the lack of shock part #'s for my truck?

I know the front end on the 3500 is almost identical (besides torsion bar spring rate) and the rear dif is the same model but not shure if the shock mount is the same as that is a DRW

went to bilstiens site and there is no caontact info would realy like to ask one of thier techs

I am right that there are these models in 2001 right?

1500

1500HD

2500

2500HD

3500HD

of course in "c" and "K"

and from what I know the closest to mine is the 3500HD sans drw and springs am I right on this?

I'm doing Rancho RS9000's on mine as soon as I find 2" blocks for the rear. I had RS9000's on my last truck and they are great! You may still get some of this wheel hop in sand but the shock allows a little more dampening. THe RS9000's allow you to switch from soft to firm with 5 settings. I hardly ever used setting 1 (very soft) or 5 (very hard) but mostly stayed in 3 - switching to 2 on long drives and 4 when off-roading or trailering...

I really liked the Edelbrock IAS (inertia active system) shocks that I ran.  I checked their website and they offer them for the 2500 Sub and the 2500 pickup (model year 2001) but they don't mention HD's...
