white lettered tire extra cost

As if $ 125 extra for white open letter sidewall tires (vs same black wall tire) was not enough on the '06 models, GM has upped this fee to $ 180 on the '07 trucks. I bet that no tire store would sell a single white letter tire set to a customer if the price difference was $ 180 for a set. That's simply outrageous. Somebody is making a lot of money here. I bet the net cost difference to GM is $ 20 at most. Most dealers order this option and you are going to pay for it.

I looked up the OEM Bridgestone Duellers P265/70/R17s on the tirerack.com site and the difference between the blackwall and open white lettered version is a whopping $ 6 per tire!!!!!!!! (Or $ 45 from your GM dealer. :driving:)

How about this GM: A $ 100 upgrade to Michelin LTX M/S LT tires and keep the lousy Bridgestones or Generals!. And they can have black sidewalls.

i am outraged that a corporation would actually try to make a profit.

i will make my next truck myself out of salvaged parts from the former Yugoslavian army :driving:

tirerack.com is a company too and by charging $ 6 extra for white lettered tires they make some profit , no doubt. So do thousands of tire stores in the country. The issue here is not about making reasonable profit, but rather shameless profiteering at the customer's expense. First, installing marginal or poor quality OEM tires on new trucks, then charging unreasonable amount of money for white letter upgrade, which oddly enough seems to be an option ordered on practically every new truck by dealers.

With an attitude like yours, I can see how they get away with it too. Next time you buy a new GM truck, send a check for extra $ 100 to GM and a thank you note for that wonderful set of white lettered Generals they put on your $ 35k truck.

Tires, , P245/70R17 all-season, White outlined-letter, includes all-season blackwall spare (QPO) $125.00

I saw $ 180 add on for the white letter tires on a new generation '07 Z71 with P265/70/R17 tires. Right on the sticker. Maybe the fee for the 245 tires is still $ 125. What a bargain, isn't it? :nono:

Wait.

You pay an extra 100+ for white walls, and then they won't even make the spare a white wall?

Yep, and the spare wheel is also a black steel wheel, so you're spare tire/wheel is regulated to spare duty only, even though the spare tire is full service. Who knows what they were thinking :driving:

No, I was not smoking anything, and I saw $ 180 clearly on the sticker. I went to GM website, pulled up a few window stickers on local dealer inventories, and now I understand what I saw:

P265/70R17 OOR WOL tires: $ 180

This means a double upgrade, but I do not know what the OOR tires are, but by itself this is a $ 55 option, so $ 55 for OOR tires plus $ 125 for WOL tires = $ 180. The mystery is solved.

Sorry for the confusion. You can all breathe easily now. It is still ONLY $ 125 for WOL tires. You are only paying a 500% markup over what your local tire store would charge you.

OOR = On/Off Road, I think  So Yes, if that's the case, we are talking black to white letters, and Street only to On/Off Road Tires.

Look at my post above, you'll see (Tires, , P265/70R17 on-/off-road, blackwall, includes an all-season blackwall spare (QJP) $55.00.)

An update:

I just looked at my '06 crew cab Z71 sticker, and guess what it says:

P265/70R17 OOR WOL Tires $ 125

So, "only" $ 125 for a double upgrade, which now costs $ 180 for the '07 new body style models.

So I was right the first time and this proves that GM pulled a fast one.
