Pitman arm help

Went to have my front end aligned and they said they couldn't do it until the pitman arm was changed. Said it was worn out. They wanted $250 parts and labor. I bought it at autozone for $20 and did it in 3 hours.

But my steering wheel is off by 45 degrees. The keyways on the pitman arm is at 90 degree intervals. So I don't think I messed that up.

I thought I'd be clevor and move the steering wheel. But you can't Its keyed in a way you can only install it straight up or 180 out upside down.

Where went wrong??

It sounds like you put the pitman arm on in the wrong position, or you got the wrong part (quite common from Uh-oh Zone). I was not aware that the pitman arm COULD be installed wrong (at least I couldn't on my 2500) as the keyways are staggered so it will only fit one way. Perhaps that's not the case with a 1500.

My other suggestion would be this: did you disassemble the steering shaft? That could potentially cause your problem if you assembled that incorrectly.

The pitman arm would only go on 4 ways 000, 90, 180, 270. And it was easy to see this .

I had to slid the box down in order to get enough room to use the puller. I may have not push it back up in there right, but I tried to mess with that after the fact and couldn't come up with anything other than the position I have.

That was the only thing I could think of too..
