Fuel Injection

I have a 1995 Chevy Z-71 with a 5.7 engine and 187,00 miles on it. I am having trouble with a strong fuel odor after the truck is shut off. Its is very hard to start after it sets for more than ten minutes or so. I have checked the fuel lines from the tank to the TBI and can find no leaks. I have checked it with the engine running and shut off. I have been told its the injectors and that its very hard to clog a TBI injector but once its clogged it is very hard to unclog. I have tried several different brands of injector cleaners, still get the odor. Are the injectors just worn out and can't hold the fuel pressure anymore? Should I replace the injectors or have them professionally cleaned? The truck still runs extremely well and what little gas mileage it does get has not gotten worse. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Hey Todd;

I'm not the resident tech (far from it).., but here are a few quick and simple (and cheap) things you can try...

Replace the fuel pressure regulator diaphram and seals (all comes in a kit) and replace injector filter screens.

Also - an easy way to check the injectors is to pull off the air box & spacer ring, hook up a timing light and shine it on the injectors. You should see the fuel pulse from the injectors sync'd with the light.

Just a couple simple ideas...

Good luck;

Ok I tried the timing light shining on the injectors and the are in sync. There appeared to be gas leaking down the housing that holds gthe injectors and the regulator so I wiped it off and I will check it again this afternoon after driving it today. Also while taking it apart the air cleaner had a strong smell of gas on it. I know it probably will have some smell to it but not really strong. Thanks for the info Steve a gasket kit is alot cheaper than 2 new injectors.
