Do I have a trailer tow pkg??

Hello all. I just bought a 2004 Chevy 2500HD Ext.Cab 4X4 from a dealer. He told me that it had a trailer tow pkg on it. There is a hitch in back. I just wanted to verify that I did have this pkg. I looked up my RPO codes online and saw nothing that said trailer tow pkg. A few codes did say engine oil cooler and transmission cooler and a 105amp generator. Don't trailer tow pkgs also come with a bigger battery and bigger altenator? Is it safe to say that I do or not??

If you have the factory hitch then you do; it looks like this.

THe RPO code is: Z82

Bigger alternator comes with the snowplow package. If you have the engine cooler and tranny cooler. Then you have the tow package.

I don't have the Z82 code nor do I have the 7 pin receiver as shown in the picture, I guess I don't have the pkg then. I'm not sure why there's a hitch on there with no type of receiver, where do you plug in the trailer at???? My boat trailer has the 7 pin plug. I guess I probably need to take it to a trailer place and have a receiver put in???? I'm a little confused now.

If I understand right you have a aftermarket trailer hitch but no trailer electrical plug. I think if you look by the spare tire there should be a pigtail or a tap in near there so you can add a trailer electrical plug. Since you don't have the package and if your boat is heavy I'd add a trans cooler as a minimum.

Thanks guys, I got it now. I looked up underneath by the spare tire and there was a 4pin wire hanging up there. Looks like the previous owner put on an aftermarket hitch and also wiring. My RPO codes say that the truck has a trans cooler and engine oil cooler and 105 amp generator. But I didn't see the code for trailer provisions (Z82) which I assume is the trailer tow pkg.

The factory trailering package does not include a larger battery or higher capacity alternator.

A factory tow package equipped 2500 or 3500 series will have a factory installed transmission oil temperature gauge in the cluster (for auto transmission), without the tow package, you do not get the gauge.

This is the easiest way to verify if you have the factory tow package.

That'd be goofy a 2500 with out a tow package standard. What do they think, we buy these big trucks to go to the grocery store?
