Is a brand new truck DESTROYED?

Long story short....

Bought a 2007 2500HD Classic yesterday. The drove the truck to Kansas City from Creve Coeur, MO....some 240 miles. The truck got detailed. I brought my trade in after work and the first thing after I start the 2007 is that the oil level light comes on the DIC. They take it into service and determine that it is a quart low. The service manager adds a quart and sends me on my way.

I notice a little smoke on the drive home...15 miles. I get home and smoke is pouring out of the hood. There is oil dripping all over my driveway from everywhere. I check the oil and it doesn't even remotely register on the dipstick. The dealer is flat bed towing it to the dealership to look at it tomorrow morning.

I have taken about 30 pictures. It is a mess. What to do now? Ask for a new truck or have them try and fix this one?

They say that they will take care of it....we will see.

ME PERSONALY I WOULD WANT A NEW TRUCK.I WOULDNT BE HAPPY WITH A BRANDNEW TRUCK THAT MAY BE DAMAGED.IF IT WAS JUST OVERFILLED THAT WOULD BE ONE THING BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE MORE GOING ON THAN JUST OVERFILLED OIL

I'd want a new truck.

What you'll probably get a new engine and a detail job so good you wouldn't know it ever happened. And probably good service afterward.

Hmmm. Mine is a month old. (Same truck) Found oil leaking around the bell housing. Dealer checked it out. It's the rear seal. Wonder if you have the same problem. But yours blew out. Mine is not a severe. I've never had to add oil.

What engine do you have? LQ4, LQ9 or L79? All are 6.0L (I have the LQ4)

They'll probably give you a new engine. I they won't you'll have to call gm service center and insist on an extended engine warranty. They come with 100K already, so don't know what you'll need, but ask, or insist. I had one of the original 6.0 piston knockers in 02, they said they wouldn't fix or couldn't fix it, but gave me a 100K warrantly over the std. 36K, and she went 80K just fine untill I traded it on a new one.

Not sure which 6L I have....The flat bed tow just got here and it looked like the bell housing seal could be a strong contender for the issue.

The truck was somewhat unique in the fact that it was a Graystone Metallic crew cab with a LT2 package with cloth buckets. The closest one aside from this one in St. Louis was said to be in Wisconsin.

My dilemma is this: I spoke with the sales manager and he said that if it was damaged enough they would figure out an alternative truck. But, my truck is already traded for and I want the new one.

Do I demand that they give me a new one, or settle for the new engine?

i would first see what the problem was and decide from there.i would be leaning towards a new truck. just tell them you dont have any confidence in a truck that broke on the first day of ownership

Don't fool with it, just ask for another truck. If you ask for a new engine, you'll be out of vehicle for a week or two. And would it still be a NEW truck to you.

1. Dealer's fault for delivering a truck with low oil. You should have been asked if you still wanted it. They should have not offered it back to you until they did a thorough look over, not just top it off.

2. GM's fault, it dumped all over your driveway within hours of signing your life away.

All of this compounded by the fact that it was delivered from 240 miles away and with that "short" trip, it failed.

If you do decide on keeping it, any monies you spent on extended warranties should be refunded and you are given gratis a GM Major Guard 72/100 protection plan. Also make sure you get in writing from the dealer a letter acknowledging the event, signed by the sales manager, service manager, and if possible the owner. This would be like "insurance" so if in 6 months the engine fell apart and they conclude that it was negelance do to lack of proper oil maintenance causing the GM 5/100 drivetrain not to cover it, you can show them otherwise. Also good if you're on a roadtrip and it's a different dealership.

Do you know how much oil was in the truck when they hauled it off? It sounds like you really like the truck and if it's that unique tell the dealer you want a new motor. If they won't do that, don't hung up on this truck because of the looks, let it go and get one with a motor that hasn't been run with a low oil level.

My seal will be fixed on the 29th. Hope it doesn't blow out before then. I have alot of miles to drive before then. I'll check it at every gas fill. I drove 400 miles yesterday. Checked the oil level and it's still full. Glad I found it before towing (Boating) season.

In your case (At the very least) I would demand a new engine

UPDATE:

The truck was inspected by the Service Director and the problem was easily found. According to the dealership, the factory did not place a gasket on the oil cooling line in addition to it being "machined pretty rough." They say that the parts will be in tomorrow morning and they will know the extent of damage, if any by lunch time.

Their assessment of damage done to the engine is to repair the hose, drain the oil, change the filter and inspect the oil. If there are any metallic pieces, they say damage has been done.

There is no period in which I can return to get my truck back and I am stuck driving an Impala. I have filed a claim with GM and spoke with a Customer Agent....not much going there. The solution that the Customer Agent came up basically revolved around future maintenace packages.

still doesn't mean the dealer couldn't make good on it.

They could get you a new truck replacement. Take the new "old" truck, replace the engine or inspect and sell it used.

Remember no matter if GM is the root cause, the dealer still delivered the vehicle to you faulty with a glaring oil low warning and without checking it thoroughly, just topped off the oil and sent you on your way.

And why are you stuck driving your Impala, didn't the dealer even offer you at least a loaner truck much less a new DeVille to drive while you are waiting for your truck.

i would also try to get a sample of the old oil and have a oil analylsis done by an outside company to see if any metal debris is present. it may be to late to get this but even the oil they just put in will have debris in it if there is any in the motor

Nope....The Impala "is all they had."

Needless to say I am still very pissed. I have brought up another truck several times and it has fallen by the way side. I actually dealt with 2 sales people, 1 extremely full of BS and one that is actually working with me...

They keep telling me they are gonna make this right, but tomorrow I will be forced to call the owner....

AND...when I talked to the reasonably good salesperson today, he stated they were going to try and put it back on the dealer that they made the transfer from.
