2003 2500 hd This afternoon I went ot to open the truck and the key fob opener didn't work .tried my spare keyfob and it doesn't work either. I opened the door with the key and th truck startrd fine. The inside inside lock / unloch switches work fine. I will try a new fob battery but what are the chances both go dead the same time?

Any Ideas

Sorry for the poor typing. I had the carpal tunnel release a couple days ago and the bandages are difficult to deal with.

I would start first by replacing the (watch type) batteries in the key fobs. That should do the trick!

Mine was driving me crazy for a while. I changed batteries and reset it multiple times. Then I narrowed it down to interference from my cell phone charger. It will not work if I am charging my cell phone. Unplug it and it works fine.

After you change the batteries you need to re-sync it to the module in the truck. Standing by the truck, hold the lock and unlock buttons on the remote down simultaneously until the doors unlock. Now the remote should be synced to the vehicle. Periodically, mine doies the same thing, and I just re-sync it and it's fine.

NOTE: this only works for the remote that's already assigned to your vehicle. If you buy a new one off eBay, there's a whole different procedure to associate a new remote to the BCM.

OK New battery in the fob. Tried the resynk process mentioned above. Still no good.

If both fobs are dead, that would suggest that the body control module (BCM) is not responding to the signals from the remotes. Check for blown fuses, etc. Alternative is to buy a new factory remote on eBay that comes with the programming instructions to match the remote to the car.

Had the same problem on my daughter's '00 Grand Prix GT. Both remotes suddenly stopped working. Ordered a new remote, but the BCM would not finish the programming sequence outlined in the instructions. BCM receiver was pronounced not functioning, $$$ to replace, so added an aftermarket lock/unlock with fobs and had it wired into BCM for $100 installed. Two months later factory remotes started working on their own, in addition to the aftermarket remotes. Now have 5 remotes, two original, one OEM purchased on eBay, and 2 aftermarket. Unfortunately, daughter totaled car, so no further diagnostic info available.....

OK I tried the following steps to program my remotes. It didn't work. Steps 1 -9 worked as they advertised but step 10 did nothing.

I did notice that the lock /unlock awitch on the passenger door doesn't work either.

Any ideas guys?

1. Close all vehicle doors.

2. Insert the key into the ignition.

3. Hold down the power UNLOCK button on the driver’s door panel-continue to hold down until instructed to release.

4. Perform steps 5 through 8 in fairly rapid succession.

5. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (as far as you can go without starting the engine).

6. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

7. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

8. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

9. Release the power unlock button on the door panel. The vehicle will lock and unlock the doors automatically.

10. Hold down the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the transmitter simultaneously until the door locks and unlocks. This step may take up to 30 seconds.

11. Repeat step 10 NOW for each additional transmitter (including any existing transmitters).

12. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position in order to exit the transmitter programming mode.

Good to be here Wingnut. Thanks for asking about Batgirl. She is doing fine. Still the best wife a guy could want.

I've been working at a new job since August and it has kept me very busy just taking care of work business. I havent been driving my truck much because I bought a 1998 BMW 318I to make the 80 mile commute six days a week. The 31 mpg in the 318 sure saves me a lot of cash. It also saves wear anf tear on my truck which is mostly used to tow the travl trailer out to th gold claims now.

I spoke with a mechanic today about the problem. He thinks the switch in the drivers side door is bad. He thinks it has to complete the circuit to the passenger door switch (which isn't working) in order for the fobs to communicate with the BCM.

Does that sound right to you guys?

New switch Drivers side is $157.00 + tax.

Could always take the door panel off and jumper the switch out of the circuit, then see if you can complete the programming sequence. Sounds logical though....

I seem to remember that being what was figured out in a thread a couple of years ago. But I could be wrong.

I'm doing grand...Got rid of both my trucks for one (see sig) that gets some horrible gas mileage and only takes premium. At least it's fast . I'm currently looking for a crapbox daily driver myself.
