Does power steering fluid is like trannys fluid, I mean change it regularely or live it there ? And I do you change it ?

I use a turkey baster to suck out the fluid in the res and replace every year. That way about 1/3 of the fluid gets replaced every year and it stays fairly fresh.

Once a Year. I do the turkey baster method and change it over the course of two or three days to try to get all the fluid exchanged.

My rtn line is pretty easy to get to so I just remove it from the pump, put a catch can under it and have someone crank the truck for a few seconds. Refill the reservoir and repeat this process a few times. Just be careful and do not let the pump run dry. If you do it will ingest air into the system. This is still not a big deal as the air will come out pretty quickly as you drive it.

Once you have replaced the rtn hose, either drive the truck or simply turn the wheel back and forth for a minute or two. The drain it again as you did before. This will allow you to replace almost all the fluid in the system.

I've got a medical pump with a canister that I use to suck the PS fluid out and replace a few times over the course of a week or so. So basically the turkey baster method for lazy people.

is it one of those things I SHOULD replace... or I CAN replace....

I've never seen anyone ever replace their PS fluid, I check it... I just have never messed with it

If you are anal about maintenance like many of us, change it. I typically change my fluids more frequently than recommended. Cheap insurance IMO. All fluids will break down over time and may or may not cause an issue. I just like the insurance of knowing that the fluid is in good shape.

I used a suction gun when changing PS fluid. I can empty the entire reservoir pretty quickly with this thing.

This is the process I used on my Land Rover. I have not changed the PS fluid in my Yukon yet as I have only owned it for about 2 weeks.

I generally empty the reservoir, fill it with new PS fluid, start the vehicle and turn the wheel from side-to-side fully, turn car off and repeat the steps. On the 3rd or 4th add I will use a bottle of Lucas PS fluid/stop leak/conditioner stuff. It seems to make everything smoother. 3-4 times thru and I get a majority of the old fluid changed out.

Dealer told me this should be changed. I checked with GM, they said they DO NOT reccomend changing power steering fluid.

That makes perfectly good sense.

The dealer will suggest anything to make you spend your money whether or not something is needed. GM simply determines the proper maintenance schedules based on their engineering and many years of data.
