06' Trans slip?

Driving up hill on a paved road, got out to take a picture and smelled what could have been trans fluid burning. Trans temp was fine and checked fluid 24 hts later and no discoloration or odd smell. Also used tow/haul mode with trans in 2nd during this trip on steep descents.When I came to a stop and then tried to move forward up a small incline slowly in gravel, the truck felt like the parking brake was on or was in neutral. I reversed back 15 feet and tried again and things were fine. Was this caused by being in 2nd with tow/haul on?Truck has 3K miles on it.

When your gear selector is in "2" your truck will start off in second gear under normal driving, but I don't know what effect having Tow/Haul on has. Hope this helps.

I had a funny incident happen to me with my truck, just after I got it. I backed the trailer into water to retrieve my 21 ft boat, got the boat on the trailer and then shifted the truck into 4LO. The transmission was in drive, but the truck did not move at all when I stepped on the gas.

I thought that my transmission just came apart!

 

I then realized that to shift to 4LO, the transmission must be in neutral. It appears that the truck's transfer case shifted into neutral and got stuck there. Once I placed the transmission in neutral, and reapeted the shift into 4WD (Autotrack transfer case). the truck shifted into 4WD LO easily and pulled out the boat without any effort.
