Back in June someone posted about Tahoe SS. Any news on that or was it someone's pipe dream> Any other new engines coming out should I just buy now? If no new engines coming I doubt they are going to change much else on these . I prefer GMC but will go Chevy if one of them has some good power available. Da*n I am going to miss my 8.1!

I'm in the same boat. Have a burb w/8.1 and love/need it to tow heavy. It's ready for a new one, 'assumed' i would be able to, and of course now it's gone. I here many rumors about a replacement, like the 6.2, or small diesel, but nothing solid. The 6.2 can only be had currently in the Denali or Caddi, but only with AWD, which I will never buy. Can only keep the old girl going as long as possible and wait for someone to build a replacement.

I also own a 8.1 in a pick-up and same thing, love it, but no replacement avail. Currently only Toyota makes a gasser in a pickup that has decent low end torque at 401 at 3500rpm. GM's 6Max is close but still 25 ft-lbs away but at 4500 rpm. The 6.2 is eqaul to toyota's new 5.7 in performance, but again GM, so far, will only put it in the Denali pickup which, again, will only be AWD.

So I sit with my money and wait. Can go maybe 2 years max, and will buy the best torque/towing package then. If it's Toyota, It will be a very sad day for me.

I see GM options as putting the 6.2 with a regular transfer case, and 6sp in our burb's and pick-ups as the current solution, or get us a 7L small block with 400+ ft-lbs.

For what it's worth...a 7.0L V8 is listed in the specifications section of the service manual for the 2008 GMT900 trucks and utilities. Probably for an Escalade Platinum edition or something.

They should just make a new gas motor off the ls7 make it iron block to save cost and adapt it for HD use 6spd tranny give it 450-475hp 500tq. make it cheaper than a Dmax and everyone's happy.
