MAF Sensor

How long should a 2003 Silverado ECSB Z-71 (5.3L V-8 Non-flex-fuel) remain running if you unplug the MAF Sensor? I did this in my quest to figure out why my truck is running sluggish/missing/no power (see my other recent post...major engine problems). My truck stayed running for approx. 20 seconds with the MAF sensor unplugged...the engine did not change in the way it ran when I did this.

I think I have a bad MAF sensor. Would this be a fair assumption?

from what i have read when you disconnect the maf the engine should run differently as the ecm is not getting a reading from the maf. if the engine ran the same i would say the maf is bad. you may call the dealer and see if they can test it for you.

It is very possible, though it should give you an engine code if it is bad, I would trying cleaning the wires inside of the senosr, CRC makes a cleaner specifically for MAF's. If it does turn out that the MAF is bad, I happen to have a few brand new GM MAF's that just have scratches or dings and work perfectly if you are interested. I think they are about 210 bucks from GM, im sure I could get you a heck of a deal if that turns out to be your problem.

Thanks for the advice. Thats exactly what a ASE Certified tech friend of mine told me...so thats what I did. I cleaned the wires inside the MAF with the CRC MAF cleaner and still no change. Thats when he told me to unplug the MAF to test it that way...he said that if it is functioning the engine should run differently...but it didn't so I will go to GM today to get one. Thanks for the offer, but I think I am still going to get one here so they can calibrate it to my truck...I have the Truck VIN # and the numbers on the MAF itself.
