Is the 07 non classis 6.0 litre the same as previous years?

Im considering a 1/2 ton 4x4 w/ the6.0 as it will be a daily driver but can still tow up to 10.5k. I like that the 6.0 has active fuel mgnt. I wish the 3/4 ton was coming w/ it or I would wait. The only other drawback is that small bed, but that should make for easier parking. Drove one yesterday and it seemed pretty torquey.

yeah I wouldn't expect to get too great of gas mileage in it even with the active fuel managment. check this story out if you want a good comparison...

The "Classic" 6.0 and the redesigned '07s 6.0 are not the same motors.

LQ4 6.0L (In 2007 Classic and earlier HD Trucks): 300 hp / 360 tq

LQ9 6.0L (Vortec MAX in 2007 Classic and earlier 1/2 ton trucks): 345 hp / 380 tq

L76 6.0L (Vortec MAX in new GMT-900 1/2 ton trucks): 367 hp / 375 tq

LY6 6.0L (in new GMT-900 HD trucks): 353 hp / 373 tq

The power increases come primarily from new cams, cylinder heads, slightly higher compression ratio, a new intake mainfold, and variable valve timing.

I'm curious about the LY6 motor (That is the motor that will be in the NBS 2500HD's - Correct?) I think I know that it has VVT, but does it also have AFM?

I'm hoping it does, and when that is coupled with the double overdrive 6L90, they might actually get some decent gas milage...

So, let me get this right-

The new 1500 6.0 will have more HP & torque than a new 2500 6.0?

What is vvt & afm?

What gm website can I research further?

According to GM's powertrain website the LY6 in the new GMT-900 HD will have VVT but won't have the AFM. Althought the double overdrive should help with mileage on its own.

Here is the link for all of the GM truck powertrains

Correct, LY6 is the HD 6.0L engine. LY6 has VVT, L76 has VVT and AFM. Also, LY6 is iron block, L76 is aluminum.

As long as I get my 6L90, I suppose I'll still be able to sleep at night.

Does anybody have any clue when the General plans to officially present the new HDs?

Yes on the power numbers.

VVT= Variable Valve Timing

AFM= Active Fuel Management / Displacment on Demand (old name) shuts down half the cylinders in low load situations.

Comparing the power and torque at 2000 to 3000 rpm range the LQ4 Gen III is right there with the Gen IV. The extra 50 HP comes on from 4000 to 5400 rpm. Personnally I don't run the engine in those ranges. The LQ4 works well for me.

Agreed and that's one reason I bought a 6.0L HD Classic. It's got the power in the RPM's where I drive the truck!!
