Block Heater Plug

Well, the word on the street is it's gonna get cold enough here over the next several days that I may want to think about using the block heater. The cord is still attached at the factory location, on the frame just forward in the left front wheel well.

I'm curious where people are mounting/routing the plug to/through. After a quick analysis, it appears an easy place to mount it would be off the inboard side of the left tow hook using a zip tie. This should provide easy access, as well as retaining the use of the hook. Things that slightly bother me about being mounted so low are: (1) it would potentially be closer to road slop from traffic, and (2) more susceptible to damage if off-road (snow drifts, corn fields, etc).

That said, I'm open to suggestions!!!

You found the right spot and it won't give you any problems. I've been locating mine there since I starting buying GM trucks in the late 1990's and have never had a problem. Your method as described is exactly as I have done it and not a problem one.

On my 05 2500HD I have the block heater plug sitting in the driver's side horizontal bumper cutout. It protects it, and it's easy to reach in and plug in. Been doing that for 2+ years. Great location. Keeps all the road slush and mud off it as well. It will pull out about 8 - 10 inches out of the hole.
