2003 Sonoma PCV noise

Recommended Posts

Mine is a 2003 Sonoma, 6cyl, 4.3, automatic. I have changed the PCV several times because it rattles at idle but still making that annoying noise. I tried another PCV that is the same size and shape but that one makes the truck to malfunction. I will appreciate if anyone have a way to fix this.

Thanks

are you hearing the PCV rattling from inside the truck, or from outside only?

if from inside, it could be the throttle cable touching the PCV asy., and transmitting the noise into the cab.

this is a common issue on the late 4.3L S-series..

try re-routing the throttle cable to prevent direct contact with the PCV, or add some foam padding to the cable.

its odd that the engine "malfunctions" with the different valve installed. perhaps it flows more air than the original, but i have blocked off the PCV system at times on a couple of 4.3`s, and couldnt tell a difference in how it ran...

There is a small bracket supporting the throttle cable. I pushed it down allowing a clearence between the cable and the PCV hose and there is no more noise.

drumset5994, you should try with yours, it worked on mine.

Thank you Crew Cab Sonoma, that was an easy one that was to difficult for the dealer to fix. Now I have heat coming from under the dash. I deas are welcome.

Lets say it is like when you turn on the heater in cold weather and you feel your feet warming up. Only that you can imagine how it feel here in Puerto Rico with temp over the 90s every day. It does not happens when I turn on the AC. You would expect a mix sensation of warm and cool air but it is not like that. When I turn on the AC that heat coming from under the dash stop. I don't need a heater here so, do you think there is something that I can removed to correct this?

sorry for the delay. havent had much spare time lately.

if you never need a heater at all, you could bypass the heater core with a piece of hose between outlet and return hose fittings on the engine, and just drain and cap off the heater core fittings on the firewall.

that would ensure the heater core isnt warming the air at all, and you might get slightly more effective air conditioning as well...
