Loses power and cuts off after putting in reverse

I have a 1998 Z71 Silverado. I've noticed lately that it takes a little longer to crank and it really seems to drain the electrical system during cranking-have a new, good battery. My problem is that over the last 2 weeks, mainly when the engine is cold the truck starts fine and when I go to put it in reverse or drive the truck dies as if I turned it off with the key-no sputtering-as if someone just "pulled the plug". It always restarts and then it runs fine. Has happened about 10-15 times over the last two weeks. Appreciate any thoughts.

I'd check the battery cables to start with. May not be getting a good current and causing it to act funny.

Great advice. The negative battery cable was loose. Since I tightened it up it starts faster and hasn't cut off. You saved me a lot of hassle and money by not having to take it in. Thanks so much for your help. You da man.
