Ordering 2003 Model?

It doesn't look like I'm going to be able to find a 2500HD in the configuation/color I want.  So does anyone know when Chevy will begin making the 2003 Silverados.  I read it was 3rd quarter but that's a 3 month window. :D

Sheakev,

Traditionally, US auto makers shut down production in August and retrofit the assembly lines for the next model year.

*I have always wondered, do they put the crew to work on the retrofit, or, does most everyone take a mandatory vacation at that time ? Dunno...

Once retrofit is complete, they fire up the plants and start pukin out new models and shipping them to dealers, usually sometime in September.

New models are usually on the dealers lots and go on sale October 5th.

I believe you have to wait until 10/5 for the order to be sent in to the factory.

Altho...

I'm sure some dealers may take your order a few weeks early, but I've heard they have to wait until 10/5 to fax it.

~hope this helps~

I ordered my 2003 HD yesterday.  No prices were available however, so I am taking a gamble. I had an inside relationship with the dealer and he agreed to let me have the truck at invoice.

He said that he had the allocation for the truck and that it should be built the first few weeks of September.  This could just be dealer talk but he seamed to know what he was talking about.

Just ordered a 2002 Long Bed, Extended Cab 2500HD w/ Duramax and Allison.  The dealer thinks they can find one (about 500 miles away though!).

If they can't they're taking orders for the 2003.  They expect to see some of the gas engine 2003 no later than July.  The diesels may be a problem --could be September before they're out.

Also they think (believe, hope) the 2500HD will keep the same front-end design.  I've heard otherwise and that's driving my decision to find a 2002 eventhough it has crappy towing mirrors.
