That's an interesting thought. Yea, the D@mn Germans come in and screw Chrysler up and it’s gonna take Americans to fix it. Sounds about historically right.

I'd like to see GM buy the Jeep brand, but other than that, I don't know what Chrysler offers. They've about 3 or 4 years behind GM in refocusing their lineup to meet market demands. So unless there's something GM can do to reduce pension and payroll costs, I don't see a benefit here. Especially after rejecting Kerkorian's bid for an alliance with Nissan...who unlike Chrysler is headed in the right direction.

I don't know if I'd agree with that. IMO chrysler/Dodge has come along way since Daimler's partnership.

 

I always had the impression Crysler never really had their own identity through-out the 80-90. Focusing more on practicality, and affordability. Rather than styling.

 

When Daimler purchased Chrysler (IMO again) I think Chrysler finally found a niche. They not only built the new Ford Taurus for price point, and practicallity. It actually had styling, bells and whistles, with a much improved drivetrain.

 

GM would only buy them to sell them again, but in units (IMO).

 

I can't see GM needing technology. Don't need engineers, or designers. So I can see them buying to either dissolve, or sell off finally ending the treat of another Big fish in the Domestic Market.

 

Maybe we'll see the Honda Ram, Mitsubishi 300M, or the Kia Calibre?

But with the improvements they've put in their recent lineup, as well as additions like the Acadia, they've got enough designers and engineers on staff to get something out on par, if not better than the competitors.

To me.....buying Chrysler is not a good idea. It's buying more of the same product line....a dying market in general. Chrysler's product line won't add much value to what GM already offers except maybe the minivan and the 300.

Hell, ya'll really don't remember what happened after Daimler bought Chrysler. Chrysler was sitting on CASH (a nice bit of it at that) and Daimler raided it and for the first few years of the merger totally ignored the American division. Don't ya remember that huge class-action as result of this??? What is going on with Chrysler now is completly Daimler's fault!!!!

IMO, Daimler bought Chrylser to steal the braking and computer technology to Mercedes Benz

 

Mercedes was sucking big time in that area pre-merger.

Hey, haven't you heard Chrysler still sells over a million of them a year. The market is still there. Unless you think selling a million vehicles and holding a comanding position in a market is something to ignore?

I don't think this is a good idea. GM is already in trouble, and buying a company going the wrong way is not the fix. Chrysler sells alot of mini vans, but their sales of all other vehicles are falling.

Guess you havent heard that DC has cut production at the mini van plant. Its one of several that are laying off people and cutting production.

The hot vehicle now is the crossover a SUV/van.

However, they will be able to get their hands on the 2500/3500 series Ram and the CUMMINS TURBO DIESEL!!!=). They could finally have a Cummins/Allison combo with a Chevy body/axles and build a diesel that will last FOREVER!!! Ford will definately lose the truck market unless they come up with some serious s**t.

I really can't see any advantage to merging with DCX. That would just be another drain on the company that is finally starting to get it together. All I can think is that they would buy it to put it down, one less domestic competitor.
