Hello everyone. Here is a question for you. Ive read all the post about the g80 grenade and the glock bomb. It happened to my truck over the weekend. The spider gears and side gears are trashed. the r & P seem to be in great shape. im going to clean them up right now. I cant afford to replace the diff. right now so what I am thinking of trying is to remove the spider gears and let it go on its merry way. I will not be using it offroad anythime soon so the locking rear end on the 4 x4 shouldnt matter. does anyone see any problem with this idea? Has anyone tried this idea out. Please let me know what you think and if this is just a stupid idea. Thanks.

I don't think you'll be going very far without those gears - like nowhere!!

The truck won't move without them.

Well you still have the pinion gear directly driving the ring gear which is directly connected to the left axle. why wouldnt it drive the left tire? Maybe im missing something.

Hey ive got pics to add but i have to figure out how to add them. Any thoughts?

To post pictures, use a 'photo' hosting website like photobucket.com, then you can link the photos in your posts using the "/IMG" tags. When you upload a photo to photobucket.com (as an example), it will give you the image tag line to copy&paste into your posts.

There are a multitude of websites that will allow you to upload photos/audio/videa, photobucket is just one.

Yes, you are missing it. The axle is connected to the axle gear. If you've removed the spyder gears, there is no drive. Follow...... Pinion gear turns the ring gear which is bolted to the diff. carrier. The carrier turns and the shaft that goes through it makes the spyder gears AND axle gears turn with it. The only time the spyder gears ROTATE is when you turn (or spin one wheel) Usually the breakage you've described comes from spinning hard and then getting traction.

These freindly folks here: http://www.reiderracing.com/ can give you a whole host of upgrade options. Nice people to deal with, 20 years with me.
