I have a '00 Sierra that squeals like crazy if there is a hint of moisture or humidity. I have regreased the bearing on the idler pulley, changed the serpentine belt and sprayed wd-40 all over the place. The only place it makes a difference to spray is on the fan pulley. Is there any solution to this problem. I am lucky I have 40 series flowmasters to drown it out. :loser:

make sure you clean off the idler pully, tensioner pully, and water pump pully. over time the bely will leave rubber build up and will cause it to squeal. while you have the belt off check to make sure none of the pullies are loose.

My experience is that it's not any of the pulleys or bearings OR the belt on the serpentine system that start getting all talky when it's moist out.

It's the A/C tensioner pulley down bottom that makes the racket. Most people don't even know that it's there.

I'm not saying that this is what's wrong with your truck, but I've known several people (including me) that have had to replace that thing.

I have this problem, and I can tell you that it is definitely coming from the AC belt area. How hard is it to change the AC belt tensioner, Wingnut?

Not very difficult from what I remember. You have to take the serpentine belt off first, as the A/C one is behind it...And I think there are 3 bolts holding the tensioner on.

Here's some food for thought too. If you're pressed for money and not time, or you're just the type to try and save a few bucks...Instead of buying an entire tensioner pulley...Pull that sucker off and press the bearings out of it. Bust out your local yellow pages and look around for a place that sells bearings. I bought bearings for my idler pulley a few years back for something like $5. Higher quality than GM puts in them too.

2wd and a gut :loser: , run it up on some Rhino Ramps. Running a creeper under, it's all right there in your face.

Remove the serpentine belt, it's just kinda in the way to get a wrench to the AC tensioner.

Remove the AC Belt.

Remove/replace.....or repair bearings, AC Tensioner

Good time to replace both belts since you have to take them off anyways.....that is if they are bit old with mileage.
