Alternator Rebuild

I was looking at this on ebay...

What makes an alternator higher amps? The 99 Silverado came with 105 and 130 amp alternators. Mine came with the 130, and i'd like to keep it like that. But will this kit repair my alternator? (Its going)

I was under the impression from long ago that the only thing that makes an alternator higher output is a smaller pulley to spin it faster.

Sounds like a lot of work. I'm pretty sure you can buy 130 amp alternators for around a hundred that come with lifetime warrenty. I know mine's got the lifetime on it and I've replaced it twice for nothin'.

but I think your right on the higher output. Smaller pulley s hould be it.

You used to be able to buy alternator rebuild kits at the parts store for about $20 instead of spending $100 + on an entire new one.

I've rebuilt a few...Not hard.

Not sure about your question either.

What makes an alternator higher amps?

The number of copper windings on each stator, thickness of each individual wind, and RPM of the sheave.

Not sure what GM is doing differently between the 105A and 130A versions

I believe it's the number of windings on the armature that determines the amperage. More windings means higher amps. I'm not sure about that kit.
