Active Fuel Management Question?

I just picked up my new 2007 Silverado 1500 with the 5.3 liter, it is supposed to have the new active fuel management system. My truck is a LT1, and apparently doesn't have the computer display to monitor gas mileage. Is there any way for me to tell when the AFM is actually online? Driving down the hiway cruising at 70, I can tell. Seems like they would have put some sort of light or something that would let you know that it was supposed to be saving you money. Am I missing something?

check the DIC (info center) buttons on the left of the steering wheel on the dash. I have an 07 Lt 1 and it gives all the info on mileage if you scroll through the screens.

Well, I've discovered there are two types of DIC, one with buttons, and one without. I have the one without, it uses the trip odometer reset to step through a limited set of options. Monitoring gas mileage and the active fuel management system apparently isn't one of the options. Transmission temperature, tire pressure, oil life, engine runtime are all I could see. Oh, well maybe someone makes an external display that hooks into the ODBI interface. :banghead:

I noticed this looking at Sierra's over the weekend. Seems the SLE1 (similar to LT1) with preferred package (steering wheel audio, auto temperature, and remote start) had the DIC with buttons but the regular SLE1 didn't. I need to confirm this with the dealer before I order mine.

This is what I got on my Sierra SLE1. I'm mad too!!! I want the other DIC options!!! No one knew this when I ordered my truck.

Guys,I'd have to double check when I get to work but I think GM offers the "upgraded" DIC fuctions as an accessory.

I thought I saw it in the new accessory book that we got,I didn't pay much attention to it because I knew when I ordered my '07 it would have the full DIC fuctions.

I also have a 07 Sierra with DIC (without the buttons) so I don't know when active fuel management is engaged. Even the dealer was unsure as to how it worked. Where would I look to see if there is an add on accessory for more DIC information. :)

There is a thread from someone on the forum who added the buttons. It looks very simple and uses GM parts.

There is a ton of aftermarket ones you can plug into your truck. And they can do WAYYY more than just monitor your milage. :)

Just add the DIC switches. Less than $100, simple plug & play install.

Hey Smokehouse,

Take a look in the "How-To" section of the forums regarding an external computer install:
