AirForceAngler Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Help, I just replace the transmission filter in my 2000 Silverado with 4L60E trans. Added the fluid back and now it doesn't want to go forward. Reverse seems to work fine, but when you put it into any forward gear, it only moves under higher RPMs and very sluggish as if it's slipping and it doesn't shift. Truck has 108,000 miles on it and was running fine until the filter change. Thanks,
Wingnut Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 I'd pull the pan back off and check it...Sounds like the filter may have popped off. Did the old gasket come off with the neck?
ken1mod Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 there is a hard to remove seal in the trans that seals to the filter tube. I bet this is messed up. You could also have a defective filter. rare but possible. Ken
AirForceAngler Posted March 3, 2007 Author Posted March 3, 2007 Thanks for the replies! It also helps if you don't knock one of the solenoid wires off when you put the pan back on. D'oh! Anyhow, got it all back together and everything works fine! It's not easy dropping the pans on these trucks but once you figure out what needs moved or removed it goes pretty quick. Last night it was about 3 hours, this morning an hour and a half. Works best if you remove the shift cable from the bracket, drop the front of the front drive shaft, unbolt the transmission crossmember and jack it up carefully by the transfer case. Then with someone prying the shift cable bracket out of the way first, drop the pan past it, then pry down on the exhaust pipe to get the pan the rest of the way out. Good to go for another 50k miles or so! Thanks again!
