2500HD vs 1500 Max Towing

Randy, I'm with you on this one. I look at the $40,000 and $45,000 half-ton rigs on the Chevy lot and wonder why a guy would buy one of these when he could have a 2500HD for the same price, or very little more. For me, at least, the HD is the far better value.

I was really looking at the 3500's but I eventually went with a 1500 long box that ran a~26500 out the door... To me the 2500HD's didn't offer that much besides the words HEAVY DUTY.

You went from looking at 3500s to buying a 1500? What are you using the truck for? Mine being a 1500 is perfect as this is what I need/use. To say "the 2500HD didn't offer that much" it wouldv'e offered you tow/load capacity if nothing else in comparison to a 1500. BTW our replies are in response to posts from over 4 years ago...

You can come close to the power of the HD with the 1500... you can move a load with anything, stopping it is why I'd go with an HD. The difference between the stopping power and durability on the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks compared to a 1/2 is huge.

Those aren't just words to jack up the price, they actually give you bigger brakes, axles and springs. 1500's do ride nicer though

I agree one hundred percent, I have towed/hauled with 1/2, 3/4, and 1 tons and the biggest difference is the stability of the chassis/suspension and the strength of the brakes. 1/2 tons today have very powerful engines, but once you get them under a load better suited for a 3/4 or 1 ton; the utility and stability of the truck becomes much more than a cool looking badge.

you could not have needed a hd truck....a 1500 is little more than a grocery hauler that can trailer snowmobiles/atvs a few times a year... try a 15klbs fiver with that half ton or even a 2500hd with the 6.0l....

if you haul heavy, diesel is the only way to go.......
