1999 Silverado Steering Moan, Shudder, etc, etc

I have a 1999 Silverado, 93,000 Miles. It developed the dreaded steering moan, shudder thing several thousand miles ago and I need to get it fixed. I have read several posts about the intermediate shaft in the column fixing the clunk problem in the steering, but what about the moan. Will this same procedure fix both issues or is there a TSB out on this issue also. It is from slow speed turns, like in a parking lot. For awhile it was just turning one direction, but now its both.

Steering Gear Box,have some one turn the steering wheel while you touch the gear box(caution the gear box may be hot),if you feel the vibration on it,then the control valves in the gear box are sticking, replace the gear box.

Is there a TSB to back up this claim? The noise sounds like it is coming from further up in the column to me, could it vibrate up this far? Any other suggestions? I will try to look into this steering gear possibility today and let you know what i find out.
