Dmax In The New Vans

Recommended Posts

I read yesterday that GM is going to offer the Dmax in the new redesigned vans in mid model year.

No mention of the 8.1L.

PS

I didn't know where else to post this but since I have an 02HD

I put it here.

I know this subject has been talked about before (debated heavily, acually) but I wanted to pass on a conversation I recently had with a fellow worker. When talking about the Duramax and the availability in vans and suburbans, He said his cousin in Cleveland owned one (van).  I immediatly informed him there was no such thing yet and He became quite agitated, assuring me he had seen it with his own eyes and actually stood beside and had a conversation w/cousin while the duramax idled quietly. He assures me the van even came with a badge on the front fender. I'm not sure what to make of this since I know the fellow well and can attest to his honesty.... Anyone in the know want to comment on this?    ???

There is a small possibility he saw a prototype. I know they are NOT in production. The Dmax, that is. And even though the Dmax is quieter than previous versions, it does not idle quietly. Standing next to one, you know it's a diesel.

they should.  ford sells lots of powerstroke vans.  the new vans look OK, a little less attractive...

are they going to improve the interiors?  on the current gens the interior materials feel cheap and it is next to impossible to get the rear seats back into place (the stupid pins don't go in unless you really wiggle them around and stuff)

In researching this I found the following:

The only GM vans with any choice of engines that I could find is the short wheelbase (135") 1500 series, which can have a 4.3 V-6 or 5.3 V-8.

LWB 1500s have the 5.3 only.

All 2500s and all 3500s have the 6.0.

The above is for passenger vans, there is a possibility that different combinations are available for cargo versions.

If they do put the D-max in a van, and not in a Suburban/Yukon XL I'll have to seriously consider one.
