Should I Go After Market Or Stock- Head Unit

Just got a 2000 1500 4x4 ext. cab to use as my work truck. It has a factory head unit with cassette only. The previous owner had put in a Pyle cd changer but said it quit working long ago. Its been cold here in michigan so i havent looked the cd player over to see if its something simple. Been spending my time freezing my but of changing fluids and vacuuming dog hair out of this thing. I have a 05 crew cab with the Bose system, plus i added a amp and set of Mtx subs behind the seat. So i dont really want to put alot of money in this truck as far as a radio goes. When it comes time to return the leased 05 crew i will put those subs and amp in the 2000. I did realize the pass. side front door speaker is blown and i happen to have a set of 6.5" speakers sitting on my work bench that i was going to put in the Camaro. But i sold that car last fall. Is 6.5 the stock size in the truck also? As far as the head unit with cd player goes i can get a used stock one from a salvage yard for about $50. Is there a certain model of car or truck i should look for when i go? Do some factory units sound better then others?

when i first got my truck, i had stock speakers, stock radio and added 2 12's. its whatevers but if you really want a clean sound and more control, aftermarket radio is a must.

 

now im running kenwood 6019 doubledin, kicker 6.5 rs components, kenwood excelon 4x6, 2.0 cap, kicker 350.4, kicker 2500.1 and 2 12" kicker cvx's(2 more on the way with fiberglass enclosure).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

all single-din radios will fit into your truck, but you have to buy a radio kit for it. go to a local audio shop and they will probably sell it for like 15 bucks.
