they are not easy to install. I would check around for a professional shop and see the cost comparison. The usually have better stuff and install them everyday so they are quick.

i have installed one in my 2002 z71 and 1 in my mothers o4 chevy p/u., both are bulldog. They take some time but are not that difficult to install. You can download wiring charts off of there website that aid in installation. You can also buy through them a tee harness to lessen the ammount of ignition wire splicing. As for having someone else install it, make sure they are a trustworthy outfit because there is alot of splicing of wires in your ignition harness, and all it takes is one bad splice somewhere and you are stuck somewhere with a truck that dosent run!!

Hope this helps

I installed a unit on my 98 and after 2 years, it fried my wiring harness under the dash. through much research, I found that Viper is the only system when installed is gaurenteed. The only problem being is they are expensive. Any units that use splice clips are bad news. The reason the Viper is good, is because the techs are factory trained and they solder all connections.

the best way is to take it to a installation shop, I had one installed last winter in my 01 and it was well worth the price to have a profesional install the unit..........they have the right units to explain the differences and the know how to put them in without all the headaches.

I am an electrician and have installed a few alarms and audio systems. One piece of advice I would give is don't use the scotchlock style of wire connectors. The ones that crimp thru the wire insulation. Those things will cause problems including wire overheating due to bad connection. The only way to do it is to solder and heat shrink the connections.

Yes, you will pay more to have a pro do it, but you will know what you are getting. Do you want to be able to start the vehicle from 100 feet or 1000 feet? If you are buying a unit for $60, how much quality and reliability do you think is in there? Like kroc33 say's, if you use the insulation displacement connections you are asking for trouble. Solder/shrink tubing is the only way to go. We have a couple of shops that have been in business for 30+ years, that is who you want to do it.

I deal with a local franchise called Boomer McCloud. In NH they have an excelnt reputation for both car audio and other car electronics. I highly recomend them, They installed a remote starter in my 02 tahoe a few weeks ago, and i have been very happy with it. Still trying to figure out where it works from in my day to day life, but it is nice. Check them out if there is one near you.

They have locations in CT | FL | NY | NJ | NH | MA | RI | VT
