Free Cold Air Intake ( Really )

I know all those who spend hundreds on their Air raids and K and N's wont agree but I believe after looking around and thinking real hard, that what we all want can be our. Its actually right in frt of our faces.

1st off I do have an air raid jr ( replaced the factor octopus) I also have a drop in K and N. Well heres the silly part. Have you ever really looked at the factory air box ? On my 04 burb it pulls air from the fender directly from the outside with no chance of engine heat getting in and affecting it. 2nd its a closed system completely isolated from the engine. 3rd, have you ever looked at all those open air type ( so called cold air systems) they all pull air from the hot engine compartment. Maybe GM with their engineers really know what they are doing. So change the tube, change the air filter to your choice ( but please rethink the air box ) factory is perfect. sure it doesnt look cool, but is that what we really want, looks or performance ?

That always bugged me... Why do people spend over $300 on "cold" air intakes when they might as well just be running a $40 open element filter? Whatever, it's not my money...

The K&N FIPKII I have is pretty nice. The new box is open on the top and has a gasket to seal to the hood so there is no hot air going in from the engine. Of course, I installed ceremic coated headers so the heat is cut down anyway.

and the throttle body is the bottle neck not the intake

Anyone out there swap in a large throttle body? If so, what were the results?

My next upgrade for performance that I'm planning is a tune. Seems like the best bang for the buck.

I think the only reason i would change the stock airbox on my 97 z71 is if i picked up one of those goodhoods with the working ram air scoop. Then i would just pick up the ram air kit that goes with it.

Over $400 for an 80mm BBK throttle body claiming an additional 8HP... No Thanks.

I have not measured it all out yet, Cold as he** out currently ! But thats all you need to do is figure bends pipe length inner diameters ..

From what I can guess by looking at parts I am thinking a cold air tube with filter for under $100 that would work as good as ant $300+ kit !

The OEM throttle body is not a bottle neck its plenty big infact its big enough to support the 8.1L as long as its stock displacement.

Try a custom tune for your best bang for your bucks.
