Performance Brake Pads

I have an 06 z71 crew cab with front rotors and rear drums. It seems that EBC, Hawk pads don't make the correct front pads for my brake system. Are there any brake pads out there that can perform like the Hawk pads that I can actually purchase today? I don't want any OEM or crappy pads, so please don't offer those to me, already seen them. Anyone found these front pads for their fronts?

Yeah, I don't really know which company to look at as I don't know much about truck brake pads. Used to have a vette, so I know what was good on them but can't find the pads for the truck.

Wagner makes standard and severe duty versions of their Themoquiet line for GM trucks. I installed a set of standard thermoquiet pads and some new Wagner rotors last weekend on my 1993. This setup is the best brakes this truck has ever had. Very quiet, but powerfull stopping and didn't have to use any lube or anti-squeal compounds either.

Gentlemen,

I always recommend high quality brakes but remember "severe duty" linings generally have some performance trade off for that performance. Usually that is "cold performance" I have had brakes that were absolutely horrible until they warmed up. Most of us need high quality "normal" use pads. Any thoughts?

Ill second the Performance Friction pads. I have used them on my last few trucks and they have been excellent. They do make them for the 06 and autozone sells them.

When my 06 needs brakes, thats what it will get.

I don't think you all understyand, there are two sizes of pads for front disc/rear drum combos on our trucks. I have the bigger rotor and nobody makes them to my knowledge yet. PFC on their website doesn't make the pads for an 06 yet.

You are right. Starting in 2005 when they went to larger roters and 17" wheels, they changed the disk pad configureation. If you have the rpo code JF7 you have the different pads and no one makes performance pads yet.

The rotors wraped on my 2005 because of over tightening. I wanted to go to performance pads but could not find any. I ended up putting power slot rotors (they do make these for the 2005-2007) and new oem pads. This combination has worked great. Stops super great, has very little brake dust. I tow a camper and stop with no trouble.

The Power Slot Part # for 2005 larger rotors are 8657PSL and 8657PSR. The OEM pads part# is 89059119. They can be purchased through GMpartsdirect.com cheaper than the dealer.

I have had no further wraping trouble with the Power Slots.

This might not be the way you want to go but it has worked for me.

Have a great day,

Don
