Should I Be Getting Worried?

Hey 4.3, I changed the oil at 1000miles to mobile 1 synthetic. Its now at about 7000 miles and the olm has not turned on yet, should I be worried? The truck does alot of highway (about 70%), but it also will have about 20 sheets of 4x10 5/8 rock on the back for about 100 miles a week. Should I be getting worried, I swore on this truck i would follow the OLM rather than every 3000 as that is just sillly.

Checked the dipstick and it is still good, no loss!

OLM uses RPM data with heat, and abuse done to the engine. Expect it not to come on very often if you only drive highway. Mine comes on average every 4-5K. I'm not exactly a light foot either.

Yeah, my '02 got driven pretty hard and in some fairly dirty environments...The OLM never came on before 5k miles.

I wouldn't sweat it.

The OLM on my '03 ususally tells me to change the oil between 6500-7500 miles. That is also with mostly highway driving.

Mt OLM has come on at around 8,500 miles the last two times. That's with mostly rural driving, no stop & go, at about 35-55mph.

Gentlemen,

It is interesting that my girlfriend's BMW requires oil changes every 15000 miles in mixed driving. Seems awfully long to me.
