Anyone have a ZTR Mower? What brand size engine deck?

I am looking at one. I really like the 42" Toro at home depot. $2499.

Currently I have a push mower and am sick of cutting grass for a little over an hr. I would get it to save time I do not have a huge yard but I would also use it at our (family) cottage on the lake which is probably the size of a football field?

Also do you trailer it or put it in the bed with ramps? What size trailer?

Thanks!

I don't have a ZTR, but I have a 48" Lesco walk behind that I picked up after inheriting my uncle's inclosed trailer. It definitely cuts down on the mowing time.

Yeah I just got a new 48" lesco walk behind as well! Is yours Hydro?

We got those Zero turn Xmarks with like a 52" deck and we used to have 2 hustlers but now we are down to one! Stay away from those!

the zero turn mower I use is a Grasshopper 21HP Diesel with a 60" deck. love it.

only takes 2 1/2 - 3 hrs to mow the lawn. (around 7-8 acres).

i think its funny with all the people that come in to where i work looking for mower belts, and i usually laugh at them. we have 780+ hours on our mower and have not had to replace any of the belts on it. (at least not deck belts.) the only ones we had to replace were the PTO drive belts in the back because the PTO shaft would move around and throw the belts.

the mower is even more fun now that we have a push blade for it. ^_^

We've got a John Deere tractor with a mower attachment...its like 6-7ft...now thats the way to go.

Course, we've also got a shredder with a 15' deck if you really wanna get done mowing.

anyone know the total length of a 5x8 trailer? How long is the tongue is there a standard? Trying to figure out if I can fit it on the 3rd car side without moving to much

I got the Exmark LaserZ HP with the 48" deck. I love it. It use to take me over two hours to mow my yard which is just under two acres. Now I can get it done in 55 minutes and that is weed eating as well. One sweet ride.

I also have a 5' x 10' trailer with the tail gate that is made of expanded metal you let down and ride up onto the trailer with. It rocks.

Ive got a 25 horse kawasaki. WOODS mower 5ft deck. Its the only way to go man!. We can do a 4+ acre area in about the same amount of hours. It takes me about 8 mins to mow our lawn!

we use them for our lawn/weed mowing company so weve got a special tiltbed 13 ft single axle trailer with side racks for gas cans and other crap.

O yea, and for the BIG GUNS weve got a 5640 GEHL skidloader with the 6 ft hydraulic mower attactment . Then a HUSTLER field mower 55 hp ford 4 cyl. When we lower all 3 decks down It mows 14 feet wide!!!!

Ive heard from our dealer though that the mower to get is called Gravely, very well built and have little to no probs. Similar in design as Grasshopper and woods.

Run away from anything made by MTD. Cheap and parts/service hard to get. They've bought up a lot of formerly good brand names like Cub Cadet.

Look for something made by a Co. that makes commercial grade mowers; e.g. Gravely, Grasshopper, Toro. And from a commercial mower dealer where you can buy parts. Even the consumer grade mowers from these companies are serviceable.

Some companies (including Deere) are making cheaper lines for the big box stores like Depot.

A decent ZTR will cost you 50% more than tractor style, but you'll get it back in time saved. I have a 44" Gravely myself.

My 48 is belt-drive. I used the Scags while doing landscaping in college for the county here, nice equipment. Never run a ZTR unfortunately, but they definitely look fast/efficient/comfortable.

Over the summer I work at my city's Public Works dept and we use two commericial John Deere zero turns. We use a 777 and a 797. I believe we only had to change the belts once on the 797. They were ran prob an average of 5 hours a day, 4 days a week w/ no problems other than the belt.
