Alright, a quick rant. Just went out for lunch and found I have yet another dent on my month old truck from somebody opening their door or something. This is the second dent in two weeks. What the heck?!?!?! My previous truck was a "college kid deluxe" and in four or five years I never got a "parking lot" dent.

This weekend I'm going to go purchase some Westin wheel to wheel nerf bars, hopefully they'll bang into those instead...

I would highly recommend the nurf bars, i was in my truck when a guy next to me in a sad looking chevy hit the bars and not the truck!!! i stick with my famous slogan "you cant have anything nice"!!! whenever possible i park out farther where theres no cars and take up 2 sometimes 4 spaces out by myself so people get the hint to stay the hell away from my truck!!! that was my rant!!! I work at GM where parking lot dings are famous, so recently i bought a 95 sunfire ($300) for economy and to park wherever i want and not have to worry about that crap! plus saves miles on the truck!!!

This is part of Murphy's Law. You will not have anything happen to your old junker, but once you've busted your a*@ and saved up to buy a new truck, everything in the world can and may happen. That sucks!

When I had my 2001 chevy I parked at a shopping mall came out to find a door dent in my truck (wasnt there when I went in)and the dent had the same color on it from the car next to mine well they got a much bigger dent in there door now from a back kick from my foot. It just pisses me off that people dont care about other people's vehicles and thats why ill never take bodyside molding off like some people do to get that clean look, I rather look at body molding then dents in the doors.

The sad thing is that people don't give a d**n about there own belongings let alone someone elses. I always park in the back under a light and usually take two spaces. I work hard to keep my stuff in good shape so stay the hell away from it!!!!!!!!!! That's my 2 c's.

I know how you feel. A few months ago, some *hole thought it'd be funny to use a piece of duct tape to peel off some of my clear coat.

ill give you one better. when i had my old truck (a 96 chevy cheyenne k1500 EC LB) i was parked in a spot close to the front of the store (i have to pull all the way up as to try and not take up 2 spots- but now i dont care with the new one, i always take up 2) and while im inside doing my job (i work at the deli at shop rite) i hear a call on the loud speaker "would the owner of a green pickup truck please come to the customer service desk". ooooo wonderful i think to myself. so, i go up, the girl tells me someone smashed into my truck. i go outside, turns out some idiot backed his corolla into the front of my truck. HOW DO YOU NOT SEE THIS DIRECTLY BEHIND YOU????

It never fails I can park in the last spot of the farthest isle from the door at the local mall and when I come out some idiot is parked next to me. I never understand this. The next closest car is over 30 spots away, but some junker is butted up against my driverside door. It's almost like the do it on purpose... I HATE PEOPLE! Luckliy no dents yet (knock on wood), just a bunch of chips I've had to fill with touch up from gravel coming off my tires. I've had the truck since September. Wish me luck!

I was gonna say exactly what Silverado Monkey said, you can park in the furthest spot from the store, and the biggest piece of junk will park right next to you and dent your door. Unless you leave your ride in the garage all the time, dents and scratches will happen. You can only hope for a few instead of a lot.

I park in the middle of no where for this reason. People are lazy and dont care about their cars or yours. Also because I took my body molding off. I havent had an experience like Silverado Monkey's, but if I did I'd leave them a present on their car. I have had nice cars or trucks park by me out in the boonies of the parking lot, but not right next to me.

I heard of a trick thats been posted on youtube, where you get a can of airdust (for computers) and you can actually spray it on the dented area for 10 seconds, and magically the dent pops itself out. I've never tested it personally but it seems to work in the video. Also it may or may not ruin the paint job.

back in 00 when I was in high school my parents bought a new AWD chevy can. I was waiting in a walmart parking lot when I felt a shake. I looked out the mirror and some stupid B##tch opened her door into the side of it WITH ME INSIDE. It almost looked on purpose, she had her hand on the door still. They didnt even have the In transits out of it yet. So I rolled down the window and had quite a few quick words before the lady jumped in her car and raced away!!

I haven't had that problem, but I know its a common factor. People just like to park next to nice new vehicles with there old P.O.S. vehicles and they look next to them and pretty much think of your nice new vehicle as if they are jealous because they don't have it, so they like to bang up the nice vehicle with there doors of their pos vehicles. I haven't had that problem, but i know once my truck is fixed and looking nice and new, I will probably have this same problem as you. And the same with my car.

    • I would argue that GMPartsDirect has that info wrong. The service manual for R+R the lower arm and for adjusting camber/caster, none of the steps say to discard and replace the nut or the bolt. The only part that gets discarded is the plastic cam adjustment retainer that is in the eccentric from the factory. The LCA nut torque spec is: First Pass: 180 Y (133 lb ft) Final Pass: 90 –105 Degrees
    • The filtering to wear relationship goes like this: 'Relative Engine Life "Factor" new divided by the factor old. So 8/3= 2.67. That result is the multiplier thus if a motor had an effective life of 100K using a filter with a 45 micron rating at a Beta ratio of 75 then a filter with a micron rating of 10 at a Beta of 75 would improve expected engine life to 267,000 miles. Wear metals are an indirect indicator. Less is better and the motor lives longer but there isn't a multiplier like there is for filtration so well documented. Most of that has to do with the sensitivity of the wear metals tests themselves. They read a 'slice' of the spectrum but not the absolute values for the entire spectrum. So a general indicator that is used WITH the results of other tests. Two others considered in this post. Trending is very important. There is also the influence of corrosive wear which may be seen in the wear metals but separate from load based or viscosity mitigated indication. It's a small graph but the gray line is wear vs the TBN/TAN crossover. Not as useful as it used to be as there are now new chemistries for acid remediation that don't show up in standard UAO testing. They will catch up or be found liars. Only two possible outcomes, eh?
    • One thing that comes up over and over is that the torque converters are the weak link. Many of the failed transmissions have the same thing in common. The torque converter grenades and then metal torque converter shards end up destroying the transmission. One of the best things you can do is if your transmission is still fully functional, change out to one of the aftermarket billet torque converters. There are several good choices mentioned in different threads here to make your choice. After that, then you can decide about trans tuning. My trans failed at around 95,000 miles. It got replaced under the GM protection plan. The remanufactured trans comes with a 100,000 mile /3 year warranty. I still have just under 1 year left. So far, so good. As long as it's still working good next year, an aftermarket torque converter is going to get installed early spring. If the trans and OEM torque converter fail by then, I will get it replaced under warranty and immediately have an aftermarket torque converter installed. A warranty replacement trans of a replacement trans will no longer have the warranty so I will bulletproof it from the get go.
    • You got'a be cooking right now. Just looked at the weather map. Yuck! We are right back to $4 today.
    • Pushing $4.00 a gallon in most places, still $3.75 in town but it's going to spike tomorrow for sure. Diesel back up to $4.60-5.00.
