A/c Temp

With the summer approaching here in NY, I turned on the A/C on my 04 sierra to make sure it was ready for the heat. I have a thermometer in the vent and it reads 45 degrees with the recirculator on. The temp outside was about 70 degrees. I had it on for about 20 minutes with stop and go driving and highway driving at 70mph.

 

It should be colder right?

 

What should the temp really be on the thermometer?

 

The truck is going in for a warranty repair on Friday for worn e-brake cables. I will also have them look at the A/C while they have it. I would like a guide line for the temp reading so I dont get the "operating as designed" reply.

If I am reading this correctly, I guess I feel pretty fortunate. I have always complained about the FWD Caravans that I drive for work with their Elect fans. However, I am getting 44 degrees or so at the vent on a 95 degree day with 85 to 95% humidity. Of course this is as long as I am moving. If I stop in traffic, the temp would go up considerably at the vent.

 

I have never had a thermometer in the vents on my Yukon XL but it is considerably colder than the van and the best part is, the vent temp never changes whether I am moving or sitting in traffic. It is slinging snowballs all the time.

Thanks for the replies. I am asking because I own a 1988 Monte Carlo SS, that was retrofitted to 134A, that a/c blows ice cubes compared to my truck. I haven't taken the cover off the car and started it up to test it with the thermometer but there is a considerable difference in temps.

 

And if I remember right, the 04 sierra did have colder a/c when it was new. It would blow warm every now and then but what do you expect from a 32,000 truck?

 

It's going to the dealer on friday. Let them handle it.

An '88 Supa Sport huh? Those were neat cars. I had a '83 Hurst Olds 15th Anniv Edition. Remember, they were black with silver on the bottom and had the Hurst Lightening Rod Shifter.

 

It was all original down to the tires with only 36,000 miles and in 1994 a 15 yr old kid broke into my house, took all my guns, elect equip and found my keys. He broke into a pickup sitting behind the Hurst that was in my garage, loaded all my stuff in my car and drove it away. It was recovered about 2 weeks later and was totaly trashed. I took the ins money, sold the car, and bought the little 71 Pick up that you see in my sig.

 

I miss that car.

83 Hurst Olds , nice car. That sucks that some kid killed it.

 

Well after the dealer visit and being told that everything was working. I turned on the ac and guess what, hot air with all kind of gurgling sounds coming from the dashboard. I am bringing back to the dealer on 5/19. I am ready to take all the freon out of it , so they will HAVE to but some effort in looking for a problem.

 

Wasn't there a TSB on this?
