Replacement Mirrors For My 2500hd

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hi,

My wife and i are getting a toy hauler, and i need to replace the stock mirrors on my 2500HD (electric / heated) with camper style mirrors like these that are on the 2007's.

http://www.chevrolet.com/pop/silvera..._camper_en.jsp

or some aftermarket CIPA ones from Summit as suggested in several posts here

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

or some others that were recommended on another board

http://www.ttt-mirror.com/productoverview.html

I will start with the fact that i have ZERO technical aptitude, and am going to have to pay someone to do this.

Is there any reason that this can't be done, or any gotchas that i need to be aware? A quick search here reflects a lot of people doing similiar things, so i think i should be ok?

Any / all comments & advice welcome.

Thnx

D

Log on to www.dieselplace.com There you will be able to find several people that have added the larger GM towing mirrors to there truck. There might even be step by step with picture instructions on there. I looked real quick but didnt find it but I'm sure its there.

thanks for the info. that is a good deal on the mirrors, but $80 for shipping? did you shop around at all on this? some other people suggested https://www.partszoneonline.com, but i can't tell what their shipping is without buying them, so i'll call tomorrow.

I just installed the CIPA mirrors on my truck, they're big but work well. My truck is all black so they look better than the factory chrome ones. It has to be the easiest thing I've ever done to the truck. Pry the inside mirror back panel off with your fingers, pull a piece of foam out, unplug the old mirrors, remove three 10 mm nuts and the mirror comes off. Reverse the steps with the new ones. If you do pay someone don't spend a lot it's not that much work. It took me about 8 minutes.

which ones did you put on, i was looking at the 70700's. if you put those on, did everything work correctly (i.e. heat and electric adjust)? my truck is black as well (and the stockers are black).

i love your sig, and wish i would have got the 8.1 for my truck too :fume:

I got a set of (Click here) Power Vision mirrors. (Full power, heated, turn signals, etc.)

They were simple to install, but needed to have my Chebby dealer reprogram the door, since the "power fold" feature I had now is directed to the "power extend/retract" function on the new ones.

We pull a wide fifth-wheel camper, and these provide excellent visibility.

thanks for the suggestion black. i think i read somewhere that the '05 doesn't require that? i see you have an '03.

since i don't have power fold or extend now, will those work for me? i'm thinking no..

I'm not sure on the part# as I got them from a fellow member who was selling. The power adjust all works the same as before. I don't know about the heaters as I'm in Houston Texas and haven't had to use any defroster yet. I only have ice on them about 4 days a year if that.

I put the 06 and newer stock telescoping on my 03,and did not have any problems. Like haulin 8.1 said, don't pay too much it took me 30 minutes to do both. I just had electric mirrors no turn signal or defrost, the new ones came with turn and defrost and the work.

I have the 70700's and they work fine.

I bought a pair of true GM towing mirrors from a GM dealer on ebay....see the link.

The only draw back is that they are not power, but are super simple to install...sine they are GM, they are of excellent qwuality and fit perfectly...absolutely no issues.

True, they are not power, but I never need to adjust the angle of the mirror and it is pretty easy to pull them out and push them back...expecially for $170..

Lots of trailer hauling mirrors to choose from. I went with a pair of strap on McKesh, and I like them. Very easy to put on and take off; minutes, not hours, in every instance. And good field of view on both sides, esp with parabolic as well as rectangular mirrors on each side.
